I still remember the exact day. It was a Sunday, in June, and over eight years ago. I was seven years old, just beginning to see the world as it truly is. A quirkless young boy gripped his mother's hand tightly as they walked through the crowded streets. People with powers passed them, some with furry faces, some with disabled hands, and even some sprouting wings from their spine. Given many dangers surrounding them, and twice as many discriminatory thoughts, they walked quite soundly. With the occasional whistle from his mother, and the patter of their feet on the sidewalks they gracefully made their way to their next adventure. This day his mother decided that they should have fun together on a Sunday with the lovely weather. The sun blessed them, no rain, and fluffed clouds are what the young boy could see.

After many minutes of walking, they found a building the size of a castle in the boy's eyes. A place so big that he'd have to crank his head in a new direction to find where the building met the sky. And after a few more guided steps from his mother, they were inside the castle. But soon enough the little boy found that this big place was not much of a castle at all. He recognized the word ice on the banner greeting them into the building. His mother continued to guide him to the front desk, gracefully talking to the attendant. The boy looked up at his mother, to make sure his mother didn't change into another person for some reason. A little child is so fearful.

As the talking of the two adults ceased, the boy was then dragged into another room, he looked back up at his mom's other hand to find weird shoes being grasped by his mother. The room that surrounded them was so plain compared to what he thought a castle would've looked like. He stared wondering at the shoes, why they must have such a strange bottom portion was a mystery to him. But deciding he would find out soon enough he stood quiet and followed willingly into another room.

The next room was not the room he expected, a large ballroom. A sudden hit of coldness came to the boy as they entered. Grateful now for the jacket his mother made him wear beforehand. With the many moments he looked up, he gazed around the tall ceiling. This must've been why the place is so tall he thought. His eyes fell to the ground, glancing to find a strange area of the room where the floor was completely covered in ice. Did someone's quirk do this? A power so strong they can freeze the floor!

A giggle was then heard from his mother, he looked up at her with confusion evident on his face. The place is so full of mystery, a quirk accident, weird shoes, and a suspicious mother. Seeing her son uncomfortable she bent down on her knees to meet eye level with the boy. A smile etched across her lips tugging at the edges till her face was gentle.

"Sit down, Izu. I'll tell you." Her sincere, silky tone made the little boy sit down. He had his feet pulled out by his mother so that his soles faced her. She took the strange shoes she held and gently began placing them on Izu's feet. "This is called an ice-skating rink."

"Ice-skating rink?" The confused boy repeated.

"Yes, my smart boy. We use these shoes here so we can skate on the ice." She finished putting one shoe on the boy's small feet, and now getting the hang of it she quickly did the other foot as well. "Do you see those people?" Now done with the shoes she pointed to the iced area, where many people glided across the ice. Their feet either experienced or not experienced, some desperately needed help while others were flying as if they were casually walking. The little boy was in awe at this seemingly quirk-used act. The people were gliding on ice and not falling. It made Izu want to fly like them and look like them. Izu wanted to be like them.

"All set!" His mother stood up off of her knees, supporting herself with her hand on the ground. She held out a hand for Izu to get up. "Want to try, Izuku?" In reply, the boy nodded, although feeling somewhat fearful about what could happen if he slips. The boy took his mother's hand, pulling himself up using her grip on him as aid.

They both stumbled over to the ice, in which Izu's mother held onto a weird contraption. It made the boy more nervous since he wasn't used to any of this. The mother placed the contraption first on top of the ice, then took both of Izuku's hands and put them on the device. Izu automatically gripped it.

"Try to walk on the ice, but stay close to the edges. I'll come with you soon." His mother mentioned, already getting herself on the ground to tighten her skating shoes on herself.

I remember it like it was yesterday; my first step on the ice. An instant of dread filled me, but with another step, I slid. Immediately my shoes grazed the ice, and without the grounding of the contraption, I could've just fallen. That's when I realized what it must've been for, to keep me standing so I won't fall. I stood still for around a minute, shaking in fear. Hearing a rustling behind me from my mother, I had an awakening within me, an awakening of getting over this worry because I know I will be safe. With my mother here and this safety gadget, I will be okay.

I took another step, this time remembering what I did in the first two steps and I suppose the third time was the charm because I didn't slip. Shocking myself I continued with what I had learned. Taking the next few steps it was like magic how I didn't fall, in fact, I started going quicker with every step I took. Hearing a gasp from behind me I looked back to see mother looking at me in surprise as she slowly skated along behind me.

I looked around to find other people skating without the contraption, and instantly felt the determination to be exactly like them. So I placed the device to the side, still holding onto it for support. Immediately I could feel the rush that came to me from not having the contraption, it was relieving in a sense. Letting go of it, I placed my hands so that I was now in a 't' shape, making sure I can stand up straight without help. Mother instantly came to my side and tried to give me her hand, but I shook my head wanting to do it myself.

At the first step without help, my soul was filled with joy and comfort. It was something I hadn't felt in a while, making me want to stay like this forever. With another step, I continued, having this feeling fill me every time. A place I want to stay. I want to stay at this ice-skating rink. With every step, the comfort continued, my mind was lightened, like everything that was once a worry doesn't matter anymore. But I still followed my mother's directions, to stay near the edges, I didn't want my mother to stress more about me. I looked back once again at my mother, to find her face in utter shock as she tried to keep up with my pace.

Looking at the other people again, I found them not only gliding on the ice but doing jumps like rabbits on the television shows I've watched. With the joy that I have, I had even more determination. I took one step across the ice and jumped. A high jump, one that I've only done at the playground a few times. But this jump was different, The hard surface underneath can't keep me safe from my jump, and I noticed that midway between my leap. With fear suddenly building in me, I quickly moved my arms toward my face, trying to hide from the inevitable. Quickly I felt the bang, followed by the pain that erupted from my attempt. A cry was heard from my mother as she quickly caught up to me. I huddled myself on the ground, feeling my knees hurting tremendously. Tears escaped my eyes quicker than I could stop them and a whimper left my mouth as my body could feel the pang.

"Izuku!" My mother flew to the ground next to me on her knees. I became worried that she also hurt her knees. She quickly moved me so that I was now sitting on my bottom with my knees out in the open for her to see. Mother let out sad noises, making me feel guilty for what I had done. I wiped my tears with the back of my hands, and flew my body forward towards my mother, wrapping my arms around her to make me full of comfort again. The unsettling feeling in my stomach didn't go away though, even as other people came and picked me up.
