CH. 2

CHAPTER TWO

Ralph and Piggy returned to the detention room, their faces filled with a mix of excitement and fear. As they entered the room, they were met with the intrigued faces of Maurice, Simon, Jack, and Roger. The room was still dimly lit, and the musty smell that had lingered earlier, now seemed stronger. Their friends were seated at their desks, with a look of eager anticipation on their faces. "Well? What did you find?" Maurice said, his excitement bouncing.

"A door," Ralph said blankly, his voice filled with a sense of disappointment. Jack groaned, his disappointment clear. "A door? Seriously?"

"A scary door," Ralph corrected himself, "Yeah, we wanna break into it. We need your help guys," Piggy said, not wanting to enter the staff room alone.

Simon, Roger, Jack, and Maurice turned to look at Piggy, their expressions skeptical. Jack was the first one to speak, "Why should we help you, fatty?" he said, his voice laced with contempt. Piggy flinched at the nickname, his face turning red with embarrassment. Ralph, sensing Piggy's discomfort, stepped in, "Please, Jack," Ralph said, his tone pleading. "We can't do it alone, and we need your help to uncover the secrets behind that door."

Jack hesitated, looking around at the excited faces of the others wanting to see what's behind the door. He knew that the others would follow his lead. "Fine," Jack groaned, "But we have to be careful and make sure we don't get caught." The group discussed their plan and strategized on how to break into the staff room without getting caught.

The six boys sat in a round circle, huddled together as they planned their next move. The detention room was dimly lit, with only a few fluorescent lights struggling to fight against the darkness. The musty smell of the room seemed to intensify as they discussed their plan, a combination of the old books and the lingering scent of teenage boys. The room was silent, the only sound coming from the ticking of the clock on the wall. Each boy was deep in thought, their faces etched with a sense of determination and excitement.

"Well, it's clearly got to be locked," Simon said, breaking the silence. Roger nodded and agreed with Simon. "Well, someone needs to be lookout," Ralph said, looking between all the boys. "I'll do it," Maurice said, raising his hand. "Me and Piggy will lead the way," Ralph said smiling, but his words were met with a look of disapproval from Jack.

"How exactly are we gonna break in?" Jack asked, his tone skeptical. "We could search the staff room for a key," Simon suggested. "And if there isn't a key?" Maurice asked, his voice filled with uncertainty. "We could break it down," Ralph suggested, making Jack shake his head in disapproval. "That would create too much noise," Jack said. "We could picklock it," Piggy said, making the others nod in agreement.

The group discussed the idea further, brainstorming different ways to pick the lock. Ralph and Piggy offered their suggestions, but Jack seemed to dismiss them without giving them a proper consideration. The tension between Ralph and Jack was thick, with Ralph wanting to prove himself as a leader and Jack feeling threatened by Ralph's ambition.

As they finished their plan and prepared to put it into action, the boys felt a sense of unity and camaraderie. They were determined to uncover the secrets behind that door, no matter what it took, ready to take on whatever challenges lay ahead.

Ralph led the boys out of the detention room, his eyes scanning the hallway, making sure the coast was clear before motioning the boys to follow him. They followed Ralph quietly, their footsteps echoing in the empty corridor. The dimly lit hallway was musty and damp, the smell of mold and decay hung in the air. The sounds of their breathing and the rustling of their clothes were the only sounds that could be heard. The walls were made of old bricks and the floor was made of concrete and it was cold to the touch. As they reached the staff room door, Roger spoke up, "They ought to have this thing locked." before being shushed by Simon.
