requested by LadyDimitrescu_SlaveSam woke up and groggily attempted to wipe the sleep from their eyes. she looked beside her to find marlon had already left the bed. she pulled herself from the warm bed slipped on her outfit.
her steps echoed throughout the empty hallway, she turned to go down the steps and into the courtyard, where marlon most likely was. she smiled upon seeing him sitting down at one of the tables.
"you didn't wake me up." she said as she sat down across from him. he smiled at her presence and her remark. "somebody's got to get some sleep around here. besides you're always cranky when i wake you up." sam didn't even try to argue, she knew it was true.
"Marlon, Sam, there's a situation out there." the two mentioned leaders shared a look before springing up to see what the commotion was about. they ran to the gates where they saw two teens fighting off walkers back to back.
"we gotta get out there and help them." sam said and marlon agreed. with that, they opened the gates and began to help the teenagers take out the walkers surrounding them.
"thank you!" one of them said, not looking at sam, just marlon. the other nodded and muttered a quick thank you as well. "it was sam's idea to help you guys. come on, let's get inside before any more of them show up."
on their small walk back there were few words exchanged. the more talkative girl was named Amelia, and her friend Liam was the one who hardly spoke. "so, how did you guys end up out here?" sam asked. the girl looked at marlon, as if she thought sam wasn't deserving of an answer. marlon looked back at the girl with a confused look as to why she wasn't answering his parter's question.
"we'd just been running through the woods. the biters kept chasing so we kept running. then we saw something in the distance and decided we were gonna stay there for the night." she said, all while never once looking at sam. sam sighed and focused her eyes back on the path. marlon knew something was wrong with his partner by their reaction.
when they arrived back at the school, sam and marlon took them on a tour around the place. the girls questions were only directed towards marlon. sam felt like a child, and she wasn't going to beg for this persons respect.
after dinner, the new people were playing games with the normal crew. they seemed like alright people by sam's standards, other than the blatant disrespect towards her.
every night before bed sam and marlon talked about the days events with one another. it helped them clear the air and voice their opinions on the other's decision. "should we have let those people in. i mean we've got a lot of mouths to feed anyways." marlon asked his girlfriend.
"they seem like decent people, we will see if they can hold their own. but the latter choice was leaving them out there to die." marlon wrapped his arm around his girlfriend and she put her head onto his shoulder. "i don't like how she doesn't look at you when you speak to her." he said.
sam shrugged, "i guess she doesn't see me as someone she has to respect or answer to." marlon was getting mad at this, how could these people not respect the person who helped save them?
"i think we're gonna have to say something about it." he said, obviously mad. sam giggled, "you're too cute when you're mad." marlon looked down at his girlfriend and smiled before moving to blow out the light.
the next morning sam was tasked with getting a group to go hunt with. of course marlon went with her, and she decided to bring the new people along with them.
"hey, amelia and liam, you up to go out there today? we were gonna go hunting and thought we should bring you along." the girl looked up from her knife she was sharpening and then to her friend. she didn't answer the girl with anything other than a sigh. "are you the 'leader' too just because you're dating the dude in charge?" she asked, her tone was condescending.
"well i like to think it's because i'm level headed but that might have something to do with it." sam laughed a little, in an attempt to make the situation less awkward. the girl rolled her eyes, "i don't take orders from henchmen." neither of the girls noticed that marlon had appeared behind them and was watching this scene unfold.
"well, how about you liam?" she asked, trying to keep her cool despite the other girls comment. the boy shrugged, "whatever, i guess." amelia sighed and crossed her arms. "i'll go, but you're not the reason why. maybe stick to killing biters and not trying to boss us around."
sam sat there standing for a moment until she felt marlon's presence behind her. "don't speak to her like that." he said. amelia and liam looked up at the person beside of sam. "marlon, hi! what are you talking about?" the girl attempted to seem like she wasn't just disrespecting sam. marlon glared down at the person. "when she tells you something, it goes."
"i don't get why i have to listen to her when you're the leader." amelia seemed to be confused by his words. "we're both the leaders, and if you respect me you're gonna respect her. or you can try your chances outside because if i hear one more thing out of either of you i will not hesitate to throw you out." he finished.
"you're gonna throw us out because of your girlfriend?" liam asked the blonde. marlon looked at him next. "if you can't play by her rules or mine then you're better off out there." with that the boy walked away with sam following right behind him.
marlon was infuriated, sam was nothing but nice to those people and they walked all over her. "you can't be so nice to everybody. sometimes you have to be the bad guy." marlon directed towards the girl who was still following him. she tugged on his wrist lightly to get him to stop walking away.
"i'm good cop you're bad cop, everyone needs one." she smiled at her boyfriend. "not everything is a joke, sam." he was still upset at the people outside. "hey, there's always gonna be people who don't take me seriously, that's okay. if i spent my whole life being upset about it then i'd never get anywhere." marlon thought about his girlfriend's words. he pulled her in for a hug and felt her smile into his shoulder.
"i can't stand to see anyone treat you like that." he said quietly. sam giggled lightly and grabbed his hand to lead him to their room. "i love you, marlon."
they reached their room and plopped down onto their bed. marlon immediately cuddled up against sam's back. the latter laughed and attempted to turn around the face her boyfriend. "if anyone speaks to you like that again, you're gonna have to let bad cop come out." sam, now facing her boyfriend playfully rolled her eyes. "i'll always have you to stand up for me." she said. marlon smiled and kissed her forehead before moving to kiss her lips. he pulled her closer and smiled into her hair. "always." he said
