A/N: Before beginning this chapter, I want to put a trigger warning out just in case the topics may be a little too sensitive. In this chapter, there will be mention of sa and drugs. If you would like a summary of the story without missing out on too much, I will provide it at the end of this chapter.
After the incident in the courtyard, I was actually very intrigued with Bananas. Don't get me wrong, she was definitely crazy, but there was something else about her that I couldn't put my finger on. I felt I needed to talk to her myself in order to understand her better. Besides her going ballistic in the courtyard, she seems like an innocent person on the outside.
A few weeks went by before Bananas came back out of the box. She was covered in cuts, her hair was disheveled and she had dark circles under her eyes. Blaire, Tif, and I were sitting at our table when she walked in and sat by herself at a table in the corner.
"Is it bad that I want to talk to her?" I asked.
Blaire shrugged her shoulders, "It doesn't really matter to us."
"Yeah," Tif said in agreement, "Even though we think she's insane, we don't think she's a bad person. So if you want to talk to her, go ahead."
"Okay," I said getting up, "I'll be right back."
I walked over to the table and sat quietly in front of Bananas. She looked at me and rolled her eyes.
"I don't know who you are or why you're here," she said, not even bothering to look at me again.
"If you think I want something from you, I don't," I said, "I just thought I'd introduce myself before I start asking you questions."
She shrugged her shoulders and sighed, "Alright then. What's your name and what do you want to know?"
"I'm Heather. I learned a few days ago people call you Bananas, but I want to know your real name."
"I'm Maya," She said, "Well since, you're sitting here, you can't be the only one asking questions about me."
"True," I said, "What do you want to know?"
"How did you get here?"
"My parents were murdered. The cops thought I did it and locked me up here."
"Really?" Maya asked, leaning forward, "You're not supposed to be here either?"
"Either?" I asked, confused, "What do you mean by that?"
"I was set up as well."
"How so?"
"My boyfriend...well, ex-boyfriend set me up. He was a drug mule, and I didn't know much about it until it was too late. We were headed to New Albany when we were stopped by the cops. They were doing an investigation and needed to check every car passing by them. Before leaving for the trip, my ex gave me a suitcase to put my clothes in. The suitcase was lined with cocaine. The cops arrested us both, but he told the judge I put him up to it. Now he's walking free and I'm stuck in here doing his time."
"Damn, that's crazy," I said, shaking my head.
"I swear, when I get out of here, I'm gonna make him wish he were dead."
I looked down and noticed her leg was shaking and her fists were balled up. Her face was getting red and I heard her muttering to herself, "I swear to god I'm gonna kill him."
I stood up and sat next to her. I didn't know exactly what to say, but I felt like saying something that didn't sound scripted, "Well you can't exactly do that if you keep doing things that can add to your sentence."
Her fists unclenched and she looked at me, "You're right," she said with a sigh, "It's just thinking about it every time pisses me off. It makes me so angry to the point where that's all I can think about."
"So angry to the point where you're willing to get yourself cut up jumping over a fence with barbed wires?"
Maya hesitated before speaking again, "I'm just so pissed. I want him to know exactly how I felt when he threw me under the bus for something that he did."
"And that is understandable," I said, "I'd feel the same way if I was in your shoes. But I wouldn't be so hell bent on trying to kill the dude just yet. First, you gotta focus on getting the hell out of here before plotting your next move."
She nodded her head, "I never really thought of it that way. I just had so much crap happen that this was the tipping point. He really was my safe haven, and I feel so fucking stupid for trusting him."
I didn't know what to say after that, so I just sat in silence as tears ran down her face. After a few minutes, she wiped her face and let out a sigh.
"Well, enough questions about me," she said, "I still want to know more about you."
"What's there to know about?" I asked, confused.
"Actually, I'd like to know more about your parents. What were they like?"
It felt like someone was sitting on my chest when she asked me the question. A lump formed in my throat, making it hard for me to speak.
"They were like my best friends. I could talk to them about anything without feeling judged. They were trusting and trustworthy. Whenever I made a mistake, they never made me feel anything less than," I turned my head towards the wall because I felt myself getting ready to cry, "I'm sorry," I said after a putting myself back together.
"It's fine," She said shrugging her shoulder. "I was just wondering what they were like. I didn't mean to upset you. I don't have my parents either, so I just thought I'd ask."
I turned back towards her, "You lost your parents too?"
She shook her head, "No. I haven't known them for a while. I've been in the foster care system since I was a baby. One time, when I was 14, I did try and go look for them. I met who was supposed to be my mom, but she made it very clear she didn't want to see me. She called me the biggest mistake she's ever made and said I ruined her life."
"I'm sorry," I said, "Did you ever meet your father?"
"No. He's in jail for multiple counts of sexual assault with minors. My mom was one of the victims. That's how I got here."
I backed away in shock and regret, "I didn't mean to open up that wound. I was ju-"
"It's fine," She said, getting up out of her seat, "It's been a while since I had a regular conversation with someone. Hopefully we can have another one soon."
I nodded, "Yeah that will be nice. It was nice to meet you Maya," I said standing up.
"Likewise," She said, heading towards the hallway and back to her cell.
A/N: Hey everyone. Happy 2023...I guess lol. Listen I've been feeling like someone forced me int a reality show and it's only January. But I hope everyone is doing fine. For those who need the summary of the story it's pretty simple. Heather is basically getting to know Bananas, whose real name is Maya. Maya is a troubled teen who means no harm. She was given up for adoption by her mom because her mom was still a child herself, not her father though. Her father was arrested for grooming and assaulting minors. Maya was arrested because her ex-boyfriend framed her for selling drugs, and the reason she acts so crazy is because she's extremely angry and wants revenge on him, since she trusted him. That's basically it. Until next time, y'all have blessed one💕
