Best Friends... I Guess II

I hadn't gone home in three days when Leo and his mom had to leave for Leo's commercial. I watched out the window as Irmelin's car pulled out of the driveway and drove down the street. I wasn't sure what to do with myself in the empty house all weekend, and it was not like I could hang out with Leo.

I made sure that all of the doors and windows were locked before I poured myself a bowl of cereal, just eating to fill the boredom. After eating, I sat on the couch and turned on the TV, and scrolled through the channels, not being able to settle on something to watch.

I was unaware that I fell asleep, but when I woke up it was completely dark. I was on the floor and covered in sweat, not knowing what time it was or how I got here. I groggily stood up and went into the kitchen, the time on the oven showed 11:48 p.m. The answering machine was flashing a red which meant that there was a message. I pushed the play button and the machine told me that I had seven new messages. I took a seat as I began to listen to all of the messages, the first one being from Irmelin.

Hey honey, I just wanted to check in. We just got to the studio, but they don't need us here until tomorrow so we are going to a hotel. Call me back on my cell, alright? I love you, bye.

I started to tear up when she told me that she loved me, because not even my own mother would say that to me. The messages auto-played, Leo's voice coming out of the machine next.

Hi, um, it's Leo. I'm pretty sure my mom called earlier and you didn't answer, so she told me to call. You doing good? Um, just call back, okay? I miss you. Uh, bye, I guess.

I chuckled at his awkwardness, but didn't have much time to dwell on his message as the next one played.

(y/n), honey, are you alright? We haven't heard from you all day, and we are getting worried. Leo is on the verge of tears in the corner, you know how he is. Always assuming the worst. I've tried to calm him down, but he only wants to talk to you. Please call my cell, the number is on the counter.

I continued to listen as the next few messages played one after the other, guilt sinking in even more with each one.

Hi, it's Leo again. Um, are you okay? Did something happen with your parents? I swear to God if someone did something to you, (y/n). I will come back if something happened. You are more important to me than any fucking commercial, okay? I love you and please let me know that you're okay.

~

(y/n), this is the third time that I've called, and my mom's already called twice. I really just hope you are asleep or something. Please call, no matter what time you see this. It's Leo, if you couldn't already tell, by the way. Okay, um, yeah. Call me.

I couldn't listen to the rest of the messages because I was about to start crying. Just hearing Leo be so worried about me made my heart shatter, and I felt bad for making them worry so much. I dialed Irmelin's number into the phone, her picking up on the first ring.

Hello?

Mrs. Inderbinken?

(y/n)?

Yeah, hi. I'm so sorry, I fell asleep and I didn't even-

No, no. It's okay. Here, Leo is staring at me with the widest eyes. Here, I'm giving him the phone now.

Leo?

(y/n)! Are you okay?

Yeah, I'm fine. I just fell asleep on the couch. I didn't mean to sleep all day.

So nobody hurt you?

No, Leo. I'm 100% fine, I promise.

Okay, good. I miss you so much.
