Over the next few weeks, we lived with the older woman, who we learned was named Karen. She bought us clothes, bags, and hiking bags in case we needed to go to our "aunts". She seemed nice, but a bit different. And this morning, was the worst one yet.
I walked downstairs, and into the large, country style kitchen. I smiled at Karen who was making her famous eggs and bacon. "Morning Karen!" I smiled at her, and she gave her wrinkly smile back. "Good morning, sweetie! I think Seth is outside." She said, referring to Falon. We used different names with her, just in case. I nodded to her, and walked out.
I looked around, unable to find him. "Falon! Where are you?" I called, only to feel a whoosh of air, and hear feathers rustling in the breeze. "Here." He landed behind me, and I gasped, standing in front of the window, trying to block his wings. "What are you doing?!?" I hissed, watching him fold his wings in. "She'll find out sometime." He shrugged, and took off again, which made me even angrier. "Falon!" I growled, unfolding my own wings, feeling my muscles relax finally. We had had them tucked in since we got here, and only stretched them briefly in our rooms. I jumped strait up, and beat my wings in a strong downstroke. I shot into the sky, following the dark shadow ahead of me with strong strokes.
After a while, I caught up to him, and flew in front of him, hovering. "Don't you dare." I growled, but he tucked in his wings, with a smirk, might I add, and plummeted downward, before snapping them out again and rushing away. Laughing, I followed him, giving up. We swooped in the sky for a while, until we heard the voice below us. "Tori, Seth! Where are you?" Karen called from below us, looking around.
Falon sighed, looking down at her. "I bet we look like birds." I said, smirking. Falon smiled, and looked down again. "She has to find out sooner or later." He said evenly, and I nodded, agreeing. "Fine. But if she calls us out, we're out of here." He simply nodded, and we swooped down to the ground together.
As we landed, I could see the shock and amazement light on Karen's face. She stared at us for a minute, wide-eyed, as we shook out our wings and folded them smoothly behind our backs. And finally, after our wings were tucked, and we stood there staring at her, she spoke. "Y-you have...wings?" She breathed, the word wings barley audible. I sighed. "Yea. We're kinda....genetic freaks." I said, pushing the toe of my boot uncomfortably into the ground. "O-ok." She stammered, a smile lighting across her face. "Don't worry. Your secret's safe with me." She smiled the brightest smile I've ever seen on a human, that well, didn't have gigantic, slobbery fangs. She waved us inside, where Chai and Hawk both sat, eager to eat.
They saw our wings were out, an stared at us for a minute, before I nodded, calming them. "We can?" Hawk asked, Chai sitting nervously in her chair. "After breakfast." I said, nodding to them. Smiles lit their faces as they sat down to eat, waiting for their food much like ravenous wolves, which, heh, they kind of were.
Karen served us, and sat down to eat. We were all quiet for a while, until she spoke. "Tori, Seth, Josh, Krystal, I've decided you all need to learn something. So, I've enrolled you into the school here." With that, my fork hit the floor, and my mouth dropped.
NOTE-To the few of you who actually read this :3
~Hey guys! I know you are all probably thinking, "Who's this mysterious Falon creature that seems oddly like Asher?" Well, I changed Asher's name. To Falon. I like it a bit more, it fits him better. Especially since I'm reading The Giver in class, and the only clutz-goofball-stupid kid in the book is named Asher. So it was awkward. So I changed it. Tell me if you like it please! I don't want to loose any fans because of a name. But...yeah. PLEASE COMMENT, OR LIKE!!!! I don't know who actually reads this, and I'd love suggestions, comments, etc. Please people, the first comment, I'll write something for you, or add a character idea into the book ~hint hint a male character may or may not be coming in somewhere along the line~ I'm looking for good names, that aren't "normal". Nothing like Nick, of JJ, or Jared. And I might, if you are a girl, and have a female OC, I just might add her to the pack, but obviously at a younger age. So...that's it! For all of you who read this whole thing, I love you, and here's an epic smiley:
