The fading sun outlined the forest in golden light as we ran back to the house. I couldn't help but smile, looking toward the sun, which shone down, making the cream colored wheat around us glimmer golden, and our pelts' shine like bird feathers. We stopped to rest, and Falon looked at me. He smiled a devious smile, and pounced at me, bowling me over. "Should have seen that one coming." He muttered into my ear, before I pushed him off.
He laughed, and I slammed into him, using my head as a battering ram, and pushing it into his shoulder. He fell over, tumbling in the wheat field. He got up, and glared at me. I burst into laughter, ending up rolling on my back in the crushed wheat. He looked down at me with icy blue eyes, which sparked with curiosity and annoyance. "What?!?!" He finally said, snapping it as any annoyed wolf would do. "You have wheat all in your fur. You look like a black Aussie!" I laughed, and he pushed me over, placing his paw on the side of my head. I lay on my back, and looked up at the stars in the sky, which appeared ever so slowly. He fell next to me, joining me in the wheat. Our paws dangled above us, and he pointed up at the sky with one.
"Look." He said, pointing to the brightest star. I smiled. "They're beautiful." I said, glancing over at him. He gave a simple nod, and bolted up out of the thick stalks. "Ready?" He said uneasily. "Yeah." I responded, getting up and returning to normal human form. Or should I say normal werewolf bird kid form? Almost in unison, we unfolded out wings and took running jumps into the night sky, giving a strong downstroke that bent the wheat stalks to the ground. We flew to the house, and stopped above it, landing on the roof. We sat for a while, watching the stars in the sky. The lights in the house were off, seeing as Karen had probably sent Chai and Hawk to bed.
We sat in silence for what seemed like hours, until Falon finally moved. "Well, I going to bed. We're hiking to the falls tomorrow for our last swim this year, remember?" He said, unfolding his wings. I smiled, and nodded. "I know. I wonder how loud they'll scream when they jump into that freezing water." He laughed, and we jumped from the roof, gliding to the ground.
Our feet touched the grass at the same time, and we walked through the still unlocked sliding glass door. I waited as Falon turned and locked it, pulling the cream colored curtain across it. We walked up the wooden steps, and I was thankful they didn't creak. We walked down the hallway in silence, stopping outside our rooms, which were across from each other at the end of the hall.
He turned, and looked at me, his blue eyes dark. Questionably, I looked up at him. That was my mistake. Quickly, his hand flew to my cheek, and he pulled me to him, kissing me. As quick as it had happened, he had let go, and spun around, muttering "Night", before opening his door and disappearing like a shadow into the dark of his room. Before I could react, the white wooden door had closed, and I was left alone in the hallway. In a slight daze, I opened my door and closed it, sitting on my bed, my hand over my mouth. Now, I was left the rest of the night, in the dark with my thoughts.
