We had both paid for the dresses, and placed them in Kat's car. Carlee has given us a discount because the dresses were for a required pack occasion, so I didn't have to use any off the money Luke had let me borrow. Now we were just strolling the square. "There's something I need to check out."
"I was just about to say that we should head to Starbucks." Our Starbucks was built by a moony, or someone that was bitten not born. Emily was turned as a teenage girl and said that the coffee shop was the thing she missed most, so she took a menu and re-created every drink with her own recipes. Starbucks was the only coffee shop in town, so it was by far the best.
"That sounds good."
"Vanilla bean Frap?" She asked.
"Of course" She smiled at that.
"With a shot of espresso?"
"Is there any other way?"
She rolled her eyes dramatically "I'll grab that while you do your nerd thing." I laughed. She knew me too well. It was true though. I just wanted to buy a copy of this book that I'd heard about recently.
"I am forever in your debt" I joked. We split ways after deciding to meet in front of the children's park at the end of Market Street.
I pushed my way through the crowd. I was trying to get through a clump of people near the entrance of the bookstore when I bumped into someone. I felt electricity shoot through me, and my wolf started freaking out. Mate! He's here!
One of the only good things about being part wolf was that every born wolf had a mate. Each human had a voice inside their head. A voice that was a continuation of their personality. We called them our wolves because that voice is what took control when a wolf shifted into animal-form. At birth that voice was matched with another wolf. The one person that you were destined to love. When you met your mate it was like you were meeting your other half. Your mate became your world, so perfectly made for each other. It was a connection that nothing could beat.
Every little girl in the pack dreamed of meeting their prince charming. At 19 years old when you finally became an adult you could meet your mate. It was like the perfect fairy tale ending.
By a stroke of luck I had literally run into my mate. I spun around trying to figure out who he was, but it was like trying to swim against a 50 foot wave- the crowd was just too thick. I searched desperately but I couldn't find him. Suddenly I felt a hand on my shoulder that sent sparks flying. I turned to find my brothers best friend Andre standing there. Mate! My wolf howled at me. I couldn't believe my luck. Andre and I got along well, and I may have even had a small crush on him at one point or another. OK. It wasn't a small crush, but I knew better than to fall for a guy I wasn't mated to.
Andre had a darker skin tone, and parts of his curly hair were slightly lighter than the rest. He was attractive by any standards, yet the most unusual and beautiful things about his appearance were his stunning blue eyes. They popped against his cinnamon complexion, and any girl could get lost in them. It wasn't that strange for a born wolf to have odd genetics, but they usually weren't as prominent as Andre's eyes.
"Lily have you seen a girl around here?" He asked.
"Yes. They're everywhere. Have you noticed?" I answered sarcastically, and he scowled.
"Not funny. I'm serious Lil. I'm looking for someone important."
"A girl?"
"Yes a girl." He looked at me like I was stupid.
"Oh" My heart fell.
"You're no help!" He said, and turned to leave, but I grabbed his arm. Even that little touch sent shivers down my spine.
