Earth - 1933
I remember stories of the Civil War. How it seemed that man had lost all reason, that we'd become animals, or perhaps we just surrendered to the fact that animals is all we've ever been.
But there are moments were I feel as though we are more. Where we have evolved beyond the search for the next meal, or the dominance to breed who we choose.
Where we breath fresh air deep, that you can almost taste its maker.I was resting against a log in a meadow of prairie grass. The sun beating down on my face while the sound of the river I rested by, calmly pushed its way south.
The trees near me swayed in the wind, and bird songs sounded from all around.
The occasional smell of rain filled my nose as storm clouds moved away from the area.
As I gently opened one of my eyes, I smiled seeing my horse still grazing peacefully in front of me.
Oh how great youth was, how great it was that I had a long and full life ahead of me. One full of warm days, good horses, beautiful landscapes, and the people I love most only a field away.
On days like that one I would slip away from home and find a calm place to think and play.
The Great Depression wasn't as depressing as everyone thought, at least it wasn't for me.In my eyes, I only seen it for what it was. A chance to do better... a chance to say that it couldn't get any worse... oh the naive thoughts of a child. So optimistic.
I wish I could have froze that moment. I would live in it forever, swimming in the possible, while the mud of the real was stuck to the shore.
To bad mankind was only smart enough to find ways to freeze people, and not points in history.[]
Pandora - 2170
'Strange, I shouldn't be having coherent thoughts right now,' you thought as you found yourself suddenly dreaming.
The last thing you remembered was being strapped into a cryogenic chamber and getting put to sleep.
'Wait, if I'm dreaming and having thoughts, then I can wake up,' you quickly opened your eyes only to immediately close them because of the bright lighting of wherever you were. It blinded you.
Your throat was dry as well, and just sitting there thinking about it was painfully uncomfortable.
You then tried moving your arm and surprisingly you didn't feel restrains. You gently moved your leg and when you felt no tug, you decided to try and sit up with your eyes still closed.
"She's moving," you heard a voice say from somewhere in the room.
"Vitals are looking good, blood count and pressure are doing better. No muscle or tissue decomposition whatsoever," another voice said as you sat up and leaned over the ledge of whatever you were on.
The reason you didn't run or open your eyes to see where you were, was because it was normal to hear those things after being in cryo.
You would get evaluated before HYDRA would give you a mission to make sure there were no issues with your stasis. That's why you didn't open your eyes to check your surroundings.
"Can you turn-." You cleared your throat before continuing. "Can you turn the lights out, please," you said in a weak tone more to yourself.
"Dim the lights!" A voice called out before you felt a hand on your shoulder.
You quickly swatted it away before pushing yourself off the ledge and standing up.
They never did what you asked, and the doctors never dared to touch you... ever.
When you finally opened your eyes, it was thankfully darker in the room, and there were two people standing near you in lab coats and masks.
"Where am I?" You asked as you started sidestepping towards what looked to be a door.
"Y/n... you are in the RDA military base, Bridgehead," they explained as you looked at them like a cornered wild animal.
A single tear started to role down your face as you seen the technology in the room, and the people standing around monitors in the glass sealed observation deck next to you. Including a woman in a robot suit who was sipping coffee from a mug with an amused look.
"Where?" You asked defensively. "Siberia? Russia? United States? Wher-where am I! Tell me now!" You yelled as your iris's started to shift to a deep red color, and your palms started to heat up.
"You are on Pandora. Welcome back, soldier," you heard a voice come in through the intercom.
The two people in the room with you looked at each other before back at the woman with the robot suit.
She moved her human arm and her robot arm moved with it to press a button on the control board in front of her before she spoke again.
"I hope you aren't tired, because we have a lot to catch up on, you and me."
