I think cities have weakened us, our species. Mistakes have no consequences there. Step into the road without looking and the carriage merely stops or swerves. The only consequence, an angry driver.

But here, there can be no mistakes, because here doesn't care.

The river doesn't care if you can swim. The snake doesn't care how much you love your children, and the wolf has no interest in your dreams.

After Pearl Harbor was bombed by Japan, the United States immediately declared war upon them, and in doing so, declared war on the Nazi's and Italy.

Mother and I joined the Red Cross to help injured soldiers.

It was bitterly cold all the time, but I still had a duty to fulfill in helping good people.

A part of me wanted to do more in the war, but being a girl in the 1940s, that wouldn't happen for another few years before the war ended.

I would constantly be treating bullet wounds and burn victims on the daily as Nazi soldiers warranted their dangerous Blitzkrieg onto the
Union's front.

The only thing that saved us from the Nazis was how unprepared they were for the bitter cold.
