As they headed up the elevator Ash eyed Dawn. Ash tried not to stare, but there was nothing else to look at. It wasn't like the academy's elevator where there was a window to admire the city view. The only thing to look at was the list of levels and their facilities. So his eyes wandered around till they fell on the girl in front of him. She was leaning on the elevator walls opposite flipping through her binder. He watched as she flicked her head around to get hair out of her eyes. He loved the way her hair seemed to sparkle and shimmer.
She took out a pen and started scrawling something in the binder. She frowned as if she was looking at papers that were marked unfairly. The longer she looked, the more her frown deepened.
She then looked up and only then did Ash realize he was staring like an idiot.
"What?"
"Oh, uh, well there's nothing else to see..."
"Makes sense, but still weird "
They both stood there awkwardly until the doors opened. Ash could not get out fast enough.
They walked through the hospital, counting numbers to get to 357. They were around number 349 when Ash encountered a certain person. Even though he was turned away and wearing a labcoat, he could tell who he was.
"Brock? Is that you?"
The doctor turned around. Standing there was a familiar face and familiar set of lines that could barely be classified as eyes, Brock.
"Ash?"
"Brock! Nice to see you! How's it been?"
"Ash! Nice to see you too! Though, could you keep it down? Some of the doctors are working and they really don't want to be disturbed," He replied, gesturing with his fingers to keep it quiet.
"Yeah, I will,"
"Ash, you know who this is?"
"Yeah, Brock, this is my friend Dawn from Taish-Voynich academy. Dawn, meet Brock, a friend of mine from my previous journeys. He's a great cook,"
Brock offered his hand. "Nice to meet you,"
Dawn accepted. "The pleasure is all mine. I haven't met anyone from Ash's previous journeys. Well except Gary..." she added that last part with gritted teeth.
"Yeah, I would be annoyed with Gary too," Brock added.
"So what are you doing here Brock?"
"Oh, I'm adding to my resume by apprenticing to some doctors after school. I go to Taisho-Voynich too. Plus helping doctors gives me plenty of experience. I'm on break at the moment so I can talk to you,"
"Woah, cool. How come I never saw you at the Academy?"
"Well I am your senior so it kinda makes sense that I wouldn't see you. So what are you doing here?"
"Well we're here to see somebody,"
"Oh, who would that be?"
Dawn answered. "Patient from room 357"
"Wait, him?" He looked at his papers. "Wait, did you fall in that hole and find this guy?"
"Yeah. My name wasn't in the newspaper,"
"Yeah. Though it isn't exactly surprising considering you. You have a knack for pulling off stunts like these,"
Ash sweatdropped. "Yeah..."
"You're to hafta tell me what kind of situations this Ash's gotten into. But for now, let's see this guy,"
They walked in. Inside Ash saw a bunch of cables running to something lying in bed. The cables were connected to what Ash assumed was medicine, a screen with that zigzag line and a couple other electronics. A TV hung overhead which was probably for patients but at the moment was blank.
