With his knees pulled up to his chest and his muscular arms wrapped around them, Sage was sitting in the furthest corner of his walk-in closet with every light in his apartment off. No TV's were on either. It was just him and the darkness.

He had yet to go to sleep and it was 6AM the next day. Insomnia wasn't unusual for him though; he couldn't remember the last time he had slept for more than an hour at a time. Sleep just wasn't his thing-against his will, of course. He would actually love to sleep and get some real rest. His body just wouldn't let him.

Tiredness wasn't really a feeling he ever felt, either. It was like he could keep going for days on end with little to no sleep. Maybe it was the result of staying awake for a week's time during stake-outs in the military, or it could've been from childishly staying awake all night when he was 12 so his cousins wouldn't be able to put mustard in his nose.

He missed when that's all that life was; preventing yourself from being pranked. Now life was about finding a corner in your closet because your surroundings made you severely uncomfortable.

The mattress felt rock hard and Sage could feel every string of fabric from the sheet against his skin, his pillows weren't plump enough and the walls of his room were too far apart. His TV was too bright and the blanket was so thick that he felt like it was suffocating him.

He tried pacing around his room to tire himself out, but the floor was too hard and too cold even with socks on. The wood boards had creaked under the soles of his feet with each step that he would take, and the nerve wracking sound just scrambled his senses even more.

Everything was too much.

Soon enough, the sun started to peer through the mesh gray colored curtains; a sign of a brand new day. Sage quietly sighed, picking his head up from his knees. He stretched his legs out since he had been in same position for a few hours now, and realized he had to pee.

Rising from the floor, he put his arms in the air and bent himself backwards a bit to crack the bones in his back, letting out a low groan at the feeling. A few more stretches later, he finally walked to the bathroom.

After handling his business at the toilet, he went over to the sink to wash his hands. Then he remembered he didn't have any soap, or a toothbrush for that matter-toothpaste either. He hadn't thought of this while he was out yesterday.

Scratching the back of his head, he frowned at the thought of having to run more errands. He didn't plan on going back out this early, but his mouth had been closed for a while and he didn't like the taste that lingered. So after rinsing it out, he grabbed his car keys to head to the nearest Walmart.

He wondered if they still sold clothes there. He could remember when his Grandma would take him back-to-school shopping in the beginning of every August, and Walmart was always the first place they stopped at.

Memories were all he seemed to have now. It made him sad. He wished he could relive all the good things that had happened to him. Worrying so much about all of the bad things sort of made him forget about the stuff that wasn't all that bad..
