Mariah reached down in the large basket she was carrying, grabbed a handful of red rose petals, then continued to carefully place them in a line on the floor leading towards the bed.

She had spent close to two hundred dollars on real rose petals for just one night, but didn't regret it at all. They added a nice touch on the room that she was almost finished decorating.

Today was Valentine's Day, or Lover's Day as she liked to call it. Though both her and Solana always got each other gifts on this day, Solana was the one who went all out for Mariah every time. It hadn't been a Valentine's Day yet where she hadn't cried because of how happy she was.

This year Mariah decided she would be the one to plan something. Right now she was decorating a hotel room with Sage's help, and Solana was out with one of their friends, Ariana, getting her hair redone by their other friend, Tae.

She knew that Mariah and Sage were planning something, and they didn't even try to make it a surprise because that would be pointless; obviously if they'd sent her to beauty appointments on Valentine's Day, they were clearly trying to keep her away while they got something together.

The whole decorated hotel thing was so cliche, but this was only part one of their Valentine's Day activities. Tomorrow their flight would leave to Jamaica, courtesy of Solana and Mariah, and a surprise for Sage's first ever Valentine's Day.

Mariah couldn't wait. She loved taking trips.

"That's fine pumpkin. Move so I can take a picture." Mariah told Sage after he'd placed three stacks of cash next to some shopping bags on the bed, and he did as told.

"What's the point of giving her money if it's gonna go in y'all joint account anyway?" He curiously asked, watching her take a few pictures.

"She has a personal account too. We only use the joint one for like, bills and stuff. And shopping." She shrugged, sending a text to Ariana to let her know it was okay to drop Solana off now.

"Y'all are weird." He mumbled, sitting down at the table in front of a puzzle he had previously been working on.

His attention span was too short for putting up the decorations, and Mariah had barely been letting him help anyway. She was a perfectionist and needed everything done a certain way, so she did most of it on her own.

Sage was able to set up the gifts and blow up all of the balloons that covered the ceiling though. He didn't mind not doing anything else because all of the colors were hurting his head anyway. Pink was such a nauseating color, he hated it.

"You hungry baby?" Mariah asked him without looking up from her phone, currently scrolling through the Ubereats app.

"No, thank you."

"It's 'cause you ate all them snacks when I told you not to." She flicked his bottom lip, resulting in a smile from him. It was true. Why buy a bunch of candy if he couldn't eat it though? She knew he had a bad sweet tooth so she should've expected that.
