A mysterious melody

Mono: "This place sure does look lively." Mono sarcastically said while looking around. They have arrived at the Hunter's cabin after avoiding death. "What now?" Mono asked as he looked at Vortex, The boy looking around for an opening of some kind.

Vortex: "Hmm... See any thing we can use to get in?" Vortex looked at the bagged boy beside him.

Mono: "How about that window?" Mono pointed towards an opened window. Vortex walked up the cage underneath and climbed up, Poking his head through the window to observe the surroundings.

From the window Vortex can already tell the Hunter lives like a mole rat. From what he sees in front of him right now, This is the kitchen. An oven to the left, A table with a pot and some other things in the middle along with a hanging light above. This place is gross. The sooner they find the girl the sooner they can get out. He called for Mono to climb up the cage and into the Kitchen with him.

Mono: "Ugh! It stinks!" Mono took a step back while holding his nose under his mask. "How does this guy live in such a mess!?" Vortex shrugged and jumped down the counter they were standing on.

Vortex: "Go look for the girl, I'll see what's in this kitchen... If there's even anything." Vortex looked around. Mono nodded, Made his way to the kitchen door and out.

Vortex didn't actually tell Mono to leave to find the girl, In truth he needed some space. He needed to clear his head. The frequency started to sound more like static, And it's starting to melt his brain and not in a goodway. This only happened a few times before, Including the time with the glitchy child. The only times he encountered these static sounds were long ago, Back when he was 10 years old. And back then the static wasn't anything serious, Although it felt like something or someone was trying to call out to him but he chose to ignore them.

It's still weird though, After 3 years the static finally came back. But why? Why wait so long to come back? It doesn't make any sense. He looked around the kitchen thinking it'd be best to at least try and find something. He hopped up the table and looked into the pot but quickly recoiled back as his eyes landed on a dead rat in what looked like stew. The smell made more sense now. Rotting meat paired with some wet dirt, Disgusting. As Vortex made his way down his ears caught onto what sounded like a music box.

Making his way out the kitchen he noticed Mono heard it too, Also noticing the boy was holding a raccoon hat.

Vortex: "Where'd ya find the hat?" Vortex pointed towards the fluffy tail attached to the hat and looked at his.

Mono: "Found it over there in the other room. Hear that?" Mono asked, Putting the hat in his coat. "What do you think it is?" He walked towards Vortex.

Vortex: "Dunno... Might be the girl we're looking for?" He looked at Mono and back towards where the sound came from. "Come on." Vortex signed for Mono to follow behind.

Vortex followed his ears, It led him towards a set of stairs leading down. Mono followed behind, The sound of the music box getting louder and more clearer. It was a soft and simple melody. It eased both of the boys, its soothing tone luring Vortex closer. At the bottom of the stairs was the basement. It looked like the basement, Vortex looked around and kept note of the environment they were in. There was a sewing machine in the middle wall of the room, With piles of what looks like cotton, And two doors on each end of the basement.

Mono: "It's coming from there..." Mono pointed over to a boarded up door, The lower part having cracks and the wood almost chipping away. "You think it's her?" Mono glanced over Vortex who was trying to look through the holes from afar.

Vortex: "Maybe... Stay close." Vortex walked closer to the door, The calm melody growing louder. Vortex's ears liked the sound. It made his body relax.

Peeking through one of the holes there he saw the person they're looking for. Vortex backed away from the door and gave Mono a smile and a thumbs up, And told him to stand out of the way. Mono stood off to the side, Looking at Vortex who was backing up. His ears pointed back and his fists clenched. Mono opened his mouth to question but then Vortex suddenly rushed into the door, His arm making contact with the door first and then his body went through the door. Mono quickly ran towards the door that now has a hole in it. With a groan Vortex slowly came to his knees and observed the room. There were drawings on the side wall, Tally marks and people whose faces were scribbled with chalk.
