Jonathan Tucker watched as the hands of the clock perched on his dusty wall ticked and ticked. It annoyed him whenever he had to wait, not because he had any anxiety on what was to come but because he had no patience whatsoever. He was a man of action; he often took life by the reigns and pioneered himself to greatness. However in this circumstance, for the first time in his life, the matter at hand had absolutely no benefit to him. Johnathan knew that if he decided now to drop this entire thing and walk away, he could, but for some weird reason it made him all the more attached to it. He felt compelled to help the Roundhouses.
With an ounce of courage and a grain of anticipation, Johnathan finally answered his mother who had already called three times.
"Mother?"
"If you're going to ignore me at least turn your phone off or put it on do not disturb, I can literally sense you watching it ring," she laughed, causing Jonathan to grin at the tactic he often used on his father.
"Have you been well?"
"I have, what about you, you're doing well?" He asked hesitantly. He was still saddened by the fact that his well matured mother had still been working as if she was still in her youth. Taking on seven court cases a day, skipping meals, neglecting her mental health, sleeping at her office sometimes. He wanted to assure her that she didn't have to work as hard anymore, she was already rich, she could retire, she could finally-
"I have, I'm at your office right now, will you be back soon?" She questioned quizzically, probably tilting her head to side like Johnathan had imagined her doing when she was talking on the phone.
"I'm back but I won't be free for sometime, I have a case already so I'm brushing up on it before my meeting today, however I did book us a reservation at the Point Plaza, I called your assistant and found out that you were free from seven to nine, we could have dinner then go shopping after?"
"I'd love that, but I brought you your favorite chocolate muffins, I can still drop by your office, I'm at the break room, I can just-".
"I'll come to you, I'm on my way,".
Without sparing another second Jonathan hurried to the break room, which was right next to Mr.'s room. Peeking inside he noticed the old man was working, his eyes fixed on the paper before him which was perfect. Mr.Roundhouse had already texted that he was five minutes away, enough time for him to execute his plan.
"Hello mother," he greeted, embracing the woman he had avoided for the past seven months in his arms. She smelled of her usually Dandelion and Lilac extracts she often used, and mixed with the pleasant aroma of Cantlebury's Double Chocolate Muffins she smelled like home.
"Hello my wonderful boy, you look well," she laughed, excited to have seen the precious face of her only son. She admired him as she stared; his beautiful blue eyes, his neat blonde hair, his beauty marks littered across his face that made him look like a complete sweetheart. She had missed the sight of him.
"I am well mother, however I am also in a hurry, hand over the goodies and I'll walk you to the elevator," he mocked, as his mother ducked and backed away, a little game they'd play in his youth whenever she'd brought him treats.
"Fine then, here's your treats, and you better be there tonight or I'll really have to mess you up!"
"I'll be there tonight, I promise,"
-
"Mr. Tucker, I'm surprised to see you here," Mr.Cane laughed as he poured himself a drink. He hadn't expect Johnathan to come see him this soon but he was grateful nevertheless, he had the son of a prosecutor and Senator on his side, he was going to use his new found weapon very wisely.
