Y/N, Harry, Ron and Hermione are walking in the corridor. It's morning, and they are joking around. As they are walking, they look out the window. It's snowing outside, which isn't uncommon because it is nearly winter.
"I really don't want to go to potions class. It's boring, and Snape likes to pick on me." Ron says while adjusting his tie, which is undone, as always.
"No, I like potions. It isn't that bad," says Y/N.
"Seriously? Snape is horrible!" Harry says.
"You'll be fine if you would just follow the instructions for once. The same goes for you, Harry." Hermione giggles.
"Whatever. We should get to class anyway, we are going to be late!" Y/N says while she begins to run in the corridor.
"You know running in the corridors is forbidden!" Hermione shouts.
"Shut up!" Harry, Ron and Y/N shout at the same time.
As they run through the corridor (except for Hermione, who is still walking, a bit faster than usual) they see their classmates standing in front of the classroom.
The doors open the second the four friends arrive.
"You're late," professor Snape says, looking suspiciously at the four of them. "Fifteen house points will be taken from Gryffindor, and five from Ravenclaw."
"But professor Snape, we are right on time!" Hermione pleads.
"No excuses, miss Granger, you insufferable know it all. Another five points will be taken from Gryffindor."
"But..." Hermione starts, but Ron and Harry make her stop.
They all walk into the classroom and sit down at their assigned spots. Harry and Ron sit together, and Hermione and Susan Bones, another third-year student, that is in Hufflepuff. Y/N sits next to Draco Malfoy. The tension between them is awkward. They aren't friends and only sit next to each other because Snape told them to. He probably wanted his star students to sit next to each other. Y/N doesn't specifically like Draco, and Draco doesn't like her either. He always was a jerk to Harry, Ron and Hermione, but he never said anything bad to Y/N.
"Today you are going to be making the Draught of Peace. This is an advanced potion, but I am sure some of you, will be able to create it." He looks at Draco and Y/N. "All the ingredients are written on the board and can be found in the fifth chapter of your book. You have two hours to create the potion, which will be enough, as it only takes ninety minutes to create the potion. Your time starts now."
Y/N gets the ingredients, as Draco prepares their cauldron. She walks back with her ingredients, such as powdered moonstone and stewed mandrakes. Y/N's arms are so full that she drops her wand on the floor. Just as she wants to lean forward to pick it up, Draco picks the wand up for her.
He hands her the wand. "Is this cedar wood?" He asks.
Y/N becomes a bit nervous. "Yes, it is. How could you tell?"
"I'm quite interested in wands if you want to know. What's the core?"
"Dragon core." Y/N answers. "And yours?" She hesitates.
"Unicorn hair." He answers while looking at the cauldron.
Y/N looks away from Draco and notices Pansy Parkinson glaring at her. Pansy is a Slytherin girl, that seemed to be friends with Draco, though Y/N doesn't know anything about Draco's friends.
Y/N and Draco work on the potion together, surrounded by an awkward silence.
As Draco adds stewed mandrakes to the potion, he says: "It smells like ginger. I hate ginger."
"Me too, it smells horrible, and it tastes even worse," Y/N says. "Why is it so spicy anyway?"
"Spicy? It's just bitter." Draco answers. "Why do people put it in their tea?"
"Yes, that's horrible! I hate tea anyway." Y/N snorts.
"Me too. It's basically just dirt water." Draco says.
"With ginger" Y/N adds. They both laugh.
They both continue their conversation while brewing their potion. They quickly finish their Draught of Peace. Snape walks up to them.
"Curious, very curious. You've made it perfectly." Snape remarks. "Five points to each of your houses."
"Professor Snape? What should we do now we have finished the potion?" Y/N asks.
"Perhaps..." Snape ponders. "You could make another potion. Veritaserum, perhaps?"
Y/N and Draco look at each other, and nod. "We would like to do that, sir." Draco answers.
"Veritaserum it is. You can find most of the ingredients in this classroom, except for Tacca chantrieri, otherwise, known as the black bat flower. It will only make the potion stronger, and there is no need for that."
"Thank you, sir," Y/N says.
"It will take a week to make the potion, so I suggest you begin now."
Y/N and Draco find the recipe for the potion within a few minutes and look at the list of ingredients. "Do you think we can find all of these ingredients on time?" Draco asks. "This is probably the most complicated potion I've seen.
"Yeah, it is." Y/N agrees. "Good thing I like potions."
Y/N and Draco spend the rest of the lesson trying to find the ingredients, while Harry, Ron, Hermione and Susan try to complete their potion. Hermione and Susan's looks just like Y/N and Draco's, light silver, almost clear, but Harry and Ron's doesn't look like it should. It is almost black. They probably overdid some of the ingredients, resulting in the potion not only to relieve anxiety but to put you in a long irreversible sleep.
Near the end of the lesson, Y/N and Draco found all of the ingredients, except for the black bat flower. "Do you really think we need it? Snape said we didn't." Draco tells Y/N.
"The flower must be in the potion for some reason, don't you think? We can't just leave it out."
"Yeah, you're right. We must find out where we can find it." Draco says.
Y/N scans the classroom to see Snape checking on the other potions. The other potions must have gone wrong - his face explains it all.
"Class dismissed" Snape announces.
The students walk out of class and Y/N catches up to her friends.
"Did you have a nice time with your new boyfriend, Y/N?" Harry scolds.
"Wait, what?" Y/N asks.
"Honestly, you never laugh like that around us. You know what a chav he is around us." Ron replies.
"Oh come on, it's not like that. We have assigned seats it was nothing." Y/N confirms.
"She's right, they have no choice but to sit next to each other so what's the big deal?" Hermione says.
"Really, Hermione? You know how Draco treats you, why are you even defending her?" Ron reminds her.
"Whatever, let's go." Ron, Hermione and Harry walk down the corridor without Y/N. She feels tears forming in her eyes and quickly turns around so they wouldn't notice. Was it really her fault? Was she being selfish?⧫ ⧫ ⧫
