How did I get here?
I don't remember anything.
Who am I?
What am I?
What is my purpose in life?
What is this place?
What-?
Lights flashed so suddenly I had to close my eyes and shield my face with my hands. They flickered like strobe lights which made my head hurt. They turned off as suddenly as they turned on. I lowered my hands, opening my eyes at the same time.
A single spotlight turned on, illuminating a part of the stage.
Wait, a stage?
I look around, my eyes slowly adjusting in the dim room. Several rows of chairs—maybe ten or twelve. All of them were empty. A wide stage with heavy looking red curtains is in front. It's empty as well.
Then, I heard it, or rather, them.
Voices. Different voices.
I don't know how many but it sounded like there's more than five. They spoke over one another in hushed whispers. I tried my best to decipher what they said but I couldn't understand anything. They sounded like static and gusts of wind wrapped in one.
I searched for a clock but found nothing. I sat impatiently, my only companion the voices behind the stage.
Finally, after what felt like hours, I stood up and spoke.
‘This is taking too long,’ I began, ‘I'll leave for now but I'll come back when you're ready.’
I turned and left the theater. I made my way to the door. It appeared more and more lopsided the more I walked to it. I grabbed the door handle and turned it, opening the door and stepping out.
I wake up with a jolt.
Where am I?
How did I get here?
What is this place?
A single spotlight lit up something. It looked like a stage.
