Love, Rared

Tam POV

"If I had a nickel for every time you came home late, I'd be rich." Linh said, sitting at the foot of my bed.

"If you had a nickel for every time I came home late, you'd have a dollar." I said with my arms crossed, resting to sit on my bed besides her.

"Where were you?" She asked me, slightly annoyed with my correction.

The reason Linh and I work so well together is because we have no secrets kept from each other. We're like two open books on a bookshelf of Exillium. I mean, we had to rely on each other more than anything back then. We only had each other. Just me and her. That was family.

"I was...fuck, there's no point in lying. I was at Candle Shade with Keefe." I sigh, not even trying to lie.

"The whole day?" Linh raised her eyebrow, searching for truth.

"Well, we went to the MatchMaker's office to get our lists, right?" I started. "And so we did that in the morning. That took a while. Then we had to look through Candle Shade, to find something for Keefe. He forgot something there. The deal was that he had to get a list and I had to help him get stuff. It was...well...we opened our lists only after we were done, which took a while. Then, we opened it up..." I looked up to Linh, trying not to look like I wanted her pity, "and we found out me and him are soulmates."

Linh dropped her gaze to the floor and a silence faded into the room. Then, I heard some kind of noise that sounded like the bed creaking but after a moment it became more of a sniffle noise.

"Linh, are you-"

"No! I just...I'm just worried about you, Tam." She didn't raise her stare, "I'm glad you...I mean, are you gay?"

"I'm not sure." I shifted my weight from one foot to another, "I think I am." I quickly added, "but you don't have to worry about me. I can handle whatever's coming at me."

"Does Keefe like you?" Linh asked carefully, looking up at me, her eyes a bit red and puffy.

"No. He's still stalking Sophie." I said, brushing my hair out of my eyes.

"Keefe's obsessed with this obscure and outrageous romantic vision that he has about that girl." Linh sighed, "He needs to get some sense knocked into him."

"He's too thickheaded." I shrugged, "I like him, so what? I mean, I'll just get over him sooner or later and fall for some other idiot." Like I always do, I think. Like a never ending cycle. Always falling, always getting hurt, always standing up again and brushing the dirt off only to fall again.

"Tam, if you need to-" Linh started as I gently pushed her out of my room.

"I'm fine. I just need to sleep." I say, knowing there's little chance I will sleep (because why sleep when I'll only have dreams of you, and have to wake up to the nightmare inside my fucking head?). I ignore my thoughts, "Please, don't worry about me."

"I'm your sister. It's my job to worry." She said before closing the door, leaving me alone with the shadow of myself.

. . . . . .

(Since this chapter isn't long enough, we're gonna have a quick POV change)

Keefe POV

"I don't see why we should be in trouble." I sit in my room next to Dex, who looks absolutely terrified.

We're being interrogated. Well, I assume we are. When we were found by Ro, she took us back to Shores of Solace with an angry expression. Now, Ro crosses her arms to assert her clearly stated dominance in the situation. While I copy her, it doesn't have the same effect. And Dex, well, he's being Dex and fidgeting with some sort of gadget.

"Well, I can think of a couple: Sneaking out, Trespassing, and abandoning your bodyguard." Ro listed them, counting with her fingers. "But right now, I really, truly, can't think of a reason why."

"I was seeing Fitz for an Ogre History project. I can prove it to you. I have notes and everything in my backpack." Dex dug into his bookbag and pulled out a notebook.

"If I hailed your parents, would they know you were out at Everglen?" Ro asked, and Dex made an "oh shit" face.

He started getting flustered, "wellitwasanemergencysoileftwithouttellinganyonebecauseiforgot-"

"It's clear that Dex doesn't have a clear slate whatsoever so you," She pointed to me, "Alibi?"

"It's not my fault you didn't show up at Candle Shade. You should've been there." I argued back.

"I was. I was just watching from afar." Ro shrugged.

"You mean you were spying on me?" I gasped, my world shattering.

"Yes, and I'm very disappointed from what I saw." Ro dragged a hand down her face, "You were so ignorant! And kind of a dickwad to Tam. And then, you sneak into Everglen. I mean, Keefe, I have to tell Lord Cass-ass. And Dex, I have to tell your parents."

"What!?" Dex exclaims.

"C'mon, Ro!" I whine. "There has to be SOMETHING we can do! If Daddy dearest finds out, he'll ground me. And if Dex's parents find out, they'll probably...I don't know! Freeze him!"

"Freeze me?!" He squeaks, exasperated.

"See, you're scaring him!" I said.

Ro rolled his eyes, "Don't worry, Dex, your parents won't freeze you."

"Phew." Dex sighed.

"But if you guys are wondering what you can do to keep this our little secret..." Ro grinned evilly, "I have a great idea."

"Spill it, Pigtails." I crossed my arms.

"Alright, Gel Hell. I need you guys to promise me something, okay?" Ro looked at both of us, cautiously, and then said, "this is where you say 'Ro, I promise'."

"We promise." I say quickly.

"Okay good. I need Keefe to apologize to Tam and Dex to make me an elixir that can dye my hair pink, permanently." Ro declared, swiping a strawberry hair out of her eyes.

"Why should I apologize? He said he hates me." I asked, annoyed.

"You're the reason he said it, idiot. So do it or i'm telling your dad." Ro said, her smile dripping with evil intentions. "And, I know the perfect time to tell him."

I rolled my eyes, skeptical of her ideas, "And WHEN would that be?"

Her grin widened, "When the slow dance song plays. At the Sun Catcher's dance."

I slapped my palm to my face, "fine. Deal."

"Yeah, if you were wondering how I felt about this bargain-" We turned to him, and his confidence shrank, "I feel great about it. Dealio."

We both shook hands with Ro, not knowing that the dance would be the doom of me.
