Chapter 15. Step Up

*** DAY OF EXAMS Y/N POV***

I was absolutely exhausted. Our mission was long and tiring. We had to escort a very sought after jewel merchant from Konoha to the hidden stone village now the bandits weren't the issue. The rocky, hilly, terrible train and horrible weather were the issue. It took us days to finally get there with all his stupid merchandise, which he never failed to constantly try to sell us. Poor Kurenai almost gave in but I had to keep reminding her of what Asuma would think if she spent a whole month's worth of wages on some stupid necklace she didn't even need.

And now I was exhausting my chakra trying to steal some stupid sword back for Lady Tsunade. This mission was solo. The team and I split yesterday morning going our separate ways. I had to travel another four hours to get to my destination and all I could think was the team was probably already back home. Although I had my Kekkei Genkai down there was lots of room for improvement. For starters going through objects still drained me, not as bad as before but it still tired me out too quickly, something I was working on. After I had retrieved the shitty looking sword I started to make my way back to Konoha. Normally I would be flying through the trees but not today I just didn't have the energy. I hadn't slept the night before and I had already been running for several hours without stopping or eating, but I was pushing my hardest. Yes, I was eager to get back to Kakashi. But the chunin exams were today..Naruto, Sakura and Sasuke were fighting and that damn bad feeling never left my gut. I couldn't help but remember my conversation with Kakashi before I left.

***FLASHBACK***

"Stop worrying please, you've been stressing out for the last two weeks. Everything will be fine baby." Kakashi said, kissing my head. We were currently in my bathroom. I was packing to leave and he was helping. It was true I had been worrying about the chunin exams ever since I received that bad feeling in my gut.

"Look I know you keep saying that hun. But it doesn't make me feel better. Those are my kids out there...if anything happens to them I'd never forgive myself."

I said getting lost in the tile on the floor. What could I do....I wouldn't be back till after their fights. If I even got back that day at all. I would've been back before they even started but Lady Tsunade gave me a solo mission that was going to set me back several hours if not the whole day. I would miss everything...I could handle missing it if the sinking pit in my stomach wasn't so strong. Something bad was going to happen and I couldn't stop it.. the more prominent the sinking became the more I felt something bad was going to happen to my three genin..a hand gently forcing me to look up broke my tormented mind. Kakashi was staring at me worried.

"Baby....calm down okay I've been talking to you forever until I realized you weren't listening..."

He paused gently, rubbing my cheeks before pulling me into a hug.

"I don't want you going on this mission. Look at you. You're so distracted and tired. I know you didn't really sleep last night. I felt you get up. And never come back. What time was it?"

I sighed not in the mood to go through all this again. We'd been bickering about it for a while. I separated from him, grabbed my toiletries and walked to my bed, shoving them in my bag. Kakashi pushed me to the bed then climbed on top of me causing us to both slightly blush. "I don't want you going like this, I'll tell Tsunade to send someone else. And.."

I put my hands over his unmasked mouth.

"I can't miss this mission. You know I have that solo one on the way back." I pushed him off me reversing our positions catching the sexy ninja by surprise. I kissed his nose. "I'll be fine. You worry about the kids. Okay?" He sighed before pulling me down on top of him. His lips met mine in a sweet kiss.
