I often see her lost in thoughts. Curled up in blankets, staring out the window. The harsh snow, locked us in. We don't have that many chances to go out.
I sneak in beside her into the same blanket. She simply looks at me and returns back to the invisible shadows outside the window.
I stare at her. She keeps sharing somewhere else. Both looking, but our eyes never meet.
"Yoojin-ah~" I meow at her. My insides giddy with the rebelliousness of this simple action as well as the delight of her expected reaction.
She does not look back.
Thinking she is ignoring me, I call a few more times, hoping to annoy her, and get her to look at me.
"Yoojin-ah~"
"Yoojin-ii~"
"Yoojin!"
She jerks back to look at me.
Finally.
Her eyes like empty beads.
She is empty.
Afraid, I clasp her face.
"Yoojin-ah"
"Noona!"
"Madam..."
"Here."
I bring her hands to my face.
"Look at me please. I am here. With you, beside you."
I kiss the palm of her hand in a desperate plea.
As if woking from sleep, the light starts to creep back into her eyes.
She smiles.
"What are you doing, you silly boy."
She rubs my face.
"I am here. Where do you see a grown man cry like you."
"I feel like I am raising a child."
I feel irritated by that sentence, so much so that I want to push away her hands and shut her infuriating lips with mine.
I dare not. So I bury face further into her cold hands.
I want to hold her and tell her;
I will protect you.
I will protect your heart.
You don't need to be afraid anymore.
I am with you.
You and I are on the same side now.
I will never leave you again.
Alas,
Perhaps as she says I am just a child throwing a tantrum.
All I need is her. My pacifier.
