Sebastian

Those questions did something to me. I wanted to answer her but it was too much. I love Shakespeare because of Libby. She read them to me all the time.

"Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?
Thou art more lovely and more temperate:
Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,
And summer's lease hath all too short a date:
Sometimes too hot the eye of heaven shines,
And too often is his gold complexion dimm'd:
And every fair from fair sometimes declines,
By chance or natures changing course untrimm'd;
By thy eternal summer shall not fade,
Nor lose possession of that fair thou owest;
Nor shall Death brag thou wander'st in his shade,
When in eternal lines to time thou growest:
So long as men can breathe or eyes can see,
So long lives this and this gives life to thee." She said lying beside me. The sun streaming through the window as she held the book over her face. I could see the sunlight glowing on her beautiful skin.

"It's beautiful isn't it." Her smile filling ever piece in my heart. "Yes my love." I said soaking up every minute with her. "Shakespeare was my favorite. I loved every poem and every play. But I favored his sonnets. My mother used to read them to me as a child." She said softly. "She has good taste." I said stroking her hair. "I absolutely adore you, Sebastian." She looks into my eyes. "As do I Libby. As do I." I said before melting into her lips.

I loved when she'd read them to me. We shared such special moments together when we read them together. She used to talk about how her mother had a full collection of Shakespeare sonnets and poems. Libby read them before she could read. They were her favorite thing. Each sonnet and poem she'd quote to me. I hate that she was taken from me. If I could go back to that day I'd ask for them to kill me instead. I'd ask that Libby lives and she can take care of our child that never got to see the world. I'd give anything for them to live again. Even if I'm not present. She didn't deserve it.

I look over at Reyna who's eyes have been glued to the car window. My eyes drift back to the road. We get to a small cottage out in the woods. We have a few more weeks before we arrive at our destination. I figured a small vacation wouldn't hurt. We get there and I forget it's a lot bigger than I last remembered. Reyna's widened at the sight in front of her. "What is this place?" She said not taking her eyes off the cottage. "This is where we'll be staying." I said turning into the driveway. I put the car in park and turn it off. We get out and Reyna grabs her bag.

I stand in front of the door. I haven't been here in forever. I take the key and unlock it. I walk in and Reyna follows after. "Wow." She says softly. "It's beautiful." She looks at me giving me a smile. "Yeah. Uh just make yourself at home." I said before walking away. "Can I ask you something?" She said. I froze and closed my eyes for a second before she continued. I turned around. "Okay." I said. "Who lived in that house? Don't tell me you don't know because I saw the look in your eyes when we walked in." She said scanning my face. I could feel my skin heating up. "That's none of your concern. Someone I used to know okay. Now that better be your last and final question." I said getting more frustrated. "No it is my concern. I am your friend I deserve to know at least something." She says getting closer. "No. We are NOT friends. And you don't deserve to know anything." I said feeling the smoke rise up from my skin. "You tell me what happened, and I'll explain to you what happened to me in the car." She pleaded. As much as I'm intrigued to know, I can't trust her. "I could care less. You know nothing of my past. And you will never know. Now enough with the questions." I shout my body fully engulfed in flames. I expected her eyes to show nothing but fear. However her eyes remained calm. My flames only grew brighter but she got closer. "I trust you Sebastian. I'm your friend not your enemy." She says softly. Before making her way to the guest room.

What the hell just happened?

I cooled down and made my way to the back of the house. I walked further away to a lake I used to sit by with Libby. She loved nature sceneries. Especially ones like the one I'm sitting in front of.

"Don't you just love it here?"

"Yes. I have the most beautiful view."

"Not me. This. The trees, the water, the way the suns glow bounces off of everything."

"It's gorgeous Lib."

"Thank you for taking me here. It's gorgeous Sebastian."

"I love you Libby."

"And I love you Sebastian. Just as you are."

I miss her. I miss her so much. Her laugh, her smile, her eyes, her heart. Her beautiful heart. I hate myself for not saving her. I was a coward and let her die. It should've been me.

"It should've been me Lib." I said feeling a knot form in the back of my throat. "I'm sorry. I'm sorry I failed you Lib. It should've been me." I said repeatedly. It eventually turned into sobs. I couldn't hold it in anymore. I've never felt such a raw emotion before, not since Libby.

"Who's Lib?" I hear a voice say. Reyna. Damn it. "No one." I said wiping my tears. "Who is she? She obviously means a lot to you." Reyna says softy. "No one. Just leave me be." I said feeling the same rage from 15 minutes ago come back. "Sebastian, I'm your friend. I'm not going anywhere." Her voice sounded sincere. I hate that I want to trust her. I can't. "Just leave please." I said closing my eyes. "Okay.. if that's what you want." She says quietly. I hear her footsteps get further and further away. I grab a rock and throw it into the lake. "Damn it." I said through my teeth. I gave myself 5 minutes before walking back to the cottage.

I opened the back door and find Reyna in the room looking out of the window. "Hey Reyna, I'm gonna make lunch. What do you want?" I said hoping we can move past what happened 15 minutes ago. "I'm not hungry." Her voice shaky. Her eyes meet mine as her head turns. "Reyna are you okay?" I said without even realizing I did. "No I'm not.. but I will be. And why are you talking to me? You said you wanted to be left alone." She said wiping her tears. "Answer the question Reyna." I said avoiding the fact that I had asked her to leave me be. "Answer mine first." She said getting up from the chair. She walked closer to me. "A man can change his mind can't he? Now answer mine." I said keeping my voice low. "It's not a real answer but I'll take it. Now if I recall I already answered your question." She smiles lightly. "Thank you." She says walking past me. Fuck.

Its been a few days since she found me there by the lake. It took some time for her to finally talk to me. Reyna ended up being her same old self. Asking questions that didn't concern her. But each day for some reason got better. There was more laughter than anger. Right now Reyna wanted to make cookies and brownies. She cracked the eggs and I made sure the oven was preheated. I heard my phone ring and I make my way to my room.

"Hello?"

"Sebastian. Do you have her?"

My mind froze. I forgot I was taking her back.

"Yes."

"Good. Now bring her in two days time. If she's not here by then there will he consequences. I'm sure we wouldn't want a repeat of what happened all those years ago, now do we?"

I felt the flames on my skin spark up.

"No. You have my word."
