Day 3

(y/n) walked out of the room wearing his Superman T-shirt and sat on the couch. It seemed that Clark was out for a bit.

The two had spent a lot of time at Wayne manor yesterday. After his talk with Cassandra about death she had asked him in return with some help on learning how to read. Apparently the girl, up until Bruce had taken her in, hadn't even known how to talk which sounded about right considering how she talked now.

He had also met Jason Todd, one of Bruce's sons, although the boy had just made a joke about how if he wanted to die then he should just become a hero. Honestly not a bad idea.

(Y/n) waited for a little while longer before heading to the kitchen and opening the refrigerator. He pulled out a couple of strawberries that Clark had washed and left in there in a bowl for him.

The boy glanced out the window wondering how long it would take for his body to hit the pavement if he jumped out. Unfortunately he knew that Superman would catch him before he could hit the pavement.

As if to prove that previous thought right the boy heard the door open and footsteps heading to where he was in the kitchen. "Good morning" Clark smiled as he took off his glasses and watched the boy eat his strawberries. "Sorry I was gone. Helped the man on the floor below us fix a flat tire on his car. I like the shirt"

(y/n) waved it off not really caring at all. "So what're your plans for me today oh super one?"

"Well the past two days were about showing you that you can make friends and people aren't all bad. I was thinking today I could help you find something you're passionate about, something you genuinely enjoy doing"

"I enjoy building LEGO" (y/n) shrugged. "But that's an expensive hobby. Unless I go get adopted by your pal Bruce I don't think I can do that enough that I'd stop being depressed... although I could try marrying into the family" the boy stroked his chin and nodded.

"Well" Clark started, drawing the boys attention back to him. "Before we go proposing to Cassandra or Jason how about we try to find you more interests. Maybe a job?"

"A job?" (Y/n) crossed his arms. "Are you trying to make me more depressed? What decent enjoyable job could I possibly get with zero qualifications?"

"Well you currently have an in with the head of Wayne Enterprises" Clark casually reminded the boy as he leaned back against the counter.

"Good point" (y/n) shrugged. "But I still think I'd rather just marry into the family. Next option?"

"Well speaking of the Wayne family, as you know Cassandra is trying to teach herself to read and I'm sure she wouldn't mind a tutor. That may pay well" Superman didn't add in that the only reason he was certain Cass wouldn't mind a tutor was because she would realize how much it could potentially help the boy.

(Y/n) was silent for a moment. "Okay I'll admit that does sound like it could be fun" he sighed as he rubbed his arm nervously. "But I'm not sure I'd make a great teacher"

"There's only one way to find out" Superman smiled as he watched for the boys answer.

(Y/n) again seemed to consider it for a moment before nodding. "Alright. I'll try it for a few hours. But just remember you only have a few more days"

"I know" Clark's smile disappeared as he nodded solemnly. "I'll call Bruce" he quickly pulled his phone from his pocket and walked to the other room.

"This is probably a mistake" (y/n) muttered as he stared once again out the window. He continued to think that for a moment before realizing it wouldn't matter since he'd be dead soon enough.

"Alright!" Clark called from the other room. "Bruce said that Cassandra would be happy to have your help"

"Okay" (y/n) let out a silent sigh before walking over to the other room where Clark was. "So when do I start?"

—————————————————————

As it turned out the answer to the boys question was "now"

(Y/n) was currently sitting in the Wayne manor library beside Cassandra as she opened up a book, "The Odyssey". (Y/n) leaned over to skip to the first real page and nodded.

"Uh... ye- no. Ta- tall? No. Not it. Te- tell?" she looked over to the boy and he responded with a small smile which made her face light up with one of her own before she looked back at the page in front of her.

(Y/n) glanced out the window as Cass tried to figure out the word "me". How far was the drop? Probably not high up enough to kill right? It was only the second floor, of course that wouldn't kill.

The boy was quickly pulled from his thoughts as Cassandra tugged on his arm. "Hm? Sorry what?"

Cassandra frowned as she looked at his face. "Wouldn't kill. Break arm" she spoke referring to the drop from the window. "Focus" she pointed to her face. "Look at"

"Alright. Alright" (y/n) sighed and didn't bother trying to fake a smile, he knew Cassandra would see right through it.

Cassandra turned back to the book. "Tell m- me. Tell me. Tell me O... O? Easy" she smiled at the boy causing him to smile back. Her smile was infectious. "O... me- mi- mu- moose?" Her smile disappeared as she stared at the next word. She glanced at (y/n) and he shook his head. "Don't tell. I'll get"

"Alright then" (y/n) smiled, happy to see she was determined to get it. "It's possible you've never heard this word before"

Cassandra glanced at (y/n) before looking back at the paper. After a minute she gave up. "Help" she asked quietly.

"It says Muse" (y/n) read the word and Cassandra gave him a confused look. "They're the Greek goddesses of the arts"

Cassandra smiled and pointed at the boy. "Teach good" (y/n) thanked her and she looked back to the book. "Ah! Of! I know of. Of the- thi- that! Of that. That- oh... big word" she pointed to the word and (y/n) frowned as he nodded.

"Very big word" (y/n) replied as he looked at it. "Want me to tell you?" Cassandra tried to read it one time before looking back at the boy and nodding. "It says ingenious. You know that word?" Cassandra quickly nodded. "Alright great"

Cassandra quickly repeated the word ingenious before looking to the next word. "Hero. Know hero too" (y/n) smiled at her and she once again smiled back.

It was at this point (y/n) noticed the chandelier above their heads. He looked up at it as it fell. He quickly pushed Cass out of the way and was crushed beneath the enormous chandelier. Then there was nothing.

(Y/n) quickly felt a tugging on his arm once again and turned his head to see Cassandra looking up at the chandelier which happened to still be attached to the ceiling above. "It not fall" she once again looked at (y/n). "Go ten minute without thinking of death?"

"I've never even able to do that" (y/n) shrugged as he glanced down at the book before looking back at Cassandra.

Cassandra frowned as she saw the truth in the boys face. "Since you were a boy" the boy nodded in confirmation causing Cassandra to quickly wrap her arms around him and place her head on his shoulder. "I help"

"Oh I wish you could" (y/n) replied as he shook his head and hugged Cassandra back. "But I really doubt it"

"You see" Cassandra replied as she pat the boys back. "I save you"
