Percy's hand lifted gently into the air, Annabeth's simultaneously raising. The rest of the class silently backed off, leaving the explaining to them. It wasn't his greatest decision, since Percy was used to many classmates volunteering.
"This is great! Prior knowledge isn't a common subject in this class, so I'll call on Percy." Mr. Brunner, Percy thought his name was, pointed sharply at him. "Percy Jackson, would you come up to the front of the classroom and explain it to us?"
Gulping, he stood from my desk and sauntered to the front of the classroom. All eyes were on Percy, staring at him intently.
"First, there was Chaos," He sputtered. "Not like psychotic chaos, more like an inevitable pit of doom. Gaea was created first, then created her husband, also known as Uranus."
"Is that how the planet was named?" A student in the back row blurted.
"All the planets were named after Roman deities," Mr. Brunner answered. "Please don't interrupt Percy while he speaks, please. Continue, Percy."
"Gaea and Uranus were married and gave birth to the giants, hundred-handed ones, and titans."
"Like the football team?"
"Stop!" Mr. Brunner cut the kid off, zipping his mouth shut with a gesture. "Anyone who interrupts or blurts will get detention after school."
"As I was saying, one of the titans born was named Kronos," He continued to explain. "Kronos became the king of the Titans. With the help of his siblings and his scythe, he defeated his father and scattered the remains in the ocean. Kronos married his sister, Rhea, and-"
In unison, the class groaned and gagged. Annabeth gazed at the dramatic teenagers, frowning profoundly.
"Class, I don't think you understand. Greek Mythology is complicated and intricate and not entirely typical," Mr. Brunner warned.
"Anyway, Rhea and Kronos had six kids together. Those were the first Six Gods: Zeus, Poseidon, Hades, Hestia, Demeter, and Hera. Kronos received a prophecy that told him that one of his kids would defeat him. To keep his crown, he ate each of his kids, starting with Hestia."
The class let out another collective groan, which Annabeth interrupted. "Shut UP!" Annabeth yelled.
Percy continued, beginning to have fun with the information. "Well, Rhea got upset. As an alternative, she gave Kronos a rock instead of their last son, Zeus. Zeus was sent to an island far away and cared for until he was old enough. He defeated his father and became king of the universe. He married his sister, Hera, and had kids with a few of the goddesses."
"So, Percy, for the six other Olympians, who were their parents?" Mr. Brunner questioned.
"Artemis and Apollo were twins, and their parents were Leto and Zeus. Hermes's parents were Zeus and Maia, Ares's parents were Hera and Zeus, Hephaestus's mom was Hera, Athena's parents were Zeus and Metis, and Aphrodite's dad was Uranus," Percy explained.
A blond boy in the middle row raised his hand high in the air. "You said four of them had two parents, but Aphrodite and Hephaestus only had one. Why is that?"
"Technically, Aphrodite wasn't conceived from a mother. She arose from Uranus's remains, which were in the ocean. Hephaestus, however, was produced from Hera alone with no male secondary."
The entire class gazed at Percy in horror.
"This can't be what they're teaching us in high school." Drew Tanaka stared at him with both intent but also disgust.
