The explosion's echo still rang in my ears as I raced through the trees, my heart pounding against my chest. Monty's words – "It came from Arkadia" – fueled my legs to move faster, despite the fear that clutched at my throat. The forest seemed to stretch on endlessly, the urgency to reach Arkadia growing with each stride. Emerging from the tree line, the devastation that unfolded before me was like a scene from a nightmare. Arkadia, our sanctuary and hope, was now a fiery inferno, its once sturdy structure ravaged by the explosion. Flames leaped from the ship, sending plumes of thick, black smoke into the sky, painting a picture of utter ruin. Bellamy was right behind me, his breath ragged with exertion and worry. Our shared fear for those we cared about propelled us forward, even as the sight of Arkadia's destruction threatened to overwhelm us.

"I have to go find my sister," Bellamy panted, his face etched with concern and determination. He needed no further prompting, sprinting towards the medical bay with a single-minded focus that spoke volumes of his bond with Octavia.

As I followed, I caught sight of Cass, her figure blurred by the heat and smoke, desperately trying to carry an injured Octavia to safety. Bellamy's relief at finding them was palpable; he quickly took Octavia into his arms, carrying her away from the collapsing ship with Cass in tow.

I rushed to Cass's side. She was struggling for breath, her face smeared with soot and sweat. "Are you okay?" I asked, my voice tinged with worry. Her nod was brief, her focus still on Octavia.

"Monty, help Cass!" I shouted over the roar of the flames. There was no time to waste; every second counted.

Turning to Octavia, I saw her pain-stricken face, her words coming out in strained gasps. "It was Ilian...I tried to stop him." Her revelation sent a shockwave through me. Ilian, the man we had sought to aid, had become the architect of our destruction.

Bellamy's eyes met mine, a silent plea for guidance in them. "Kegan, what are we gonna do?" he asked, his voice a mix of despair and resolve. The weight of his question settled heavily upon me.

The destruction of Arkadia wasn't just a loss of our shelter; it was a shattering blow to our hopes and plans. The stakes had been raised, our path forward obliterated by flames and betrayal. As I stood amidst the chaos and wreckage, the enormity of our situation bore down on me. We were back to the drawing board, our future more uncertain than ever. The task at hand was monumental – to rebuild, to find a new solution for survival, to keep our people together in the face of despair. Leadership demanded action, yet the path ahead was shrouded in smoke and uncertainty. We needed a new plan, a new direction, but first, we needed to survive the present crisis. The task was daunting, but surrender was not an option. We had to move forward, through the flames and beyond, towards whatever future awaited us.

The camp was shrouded in the muted colors of the early morning, a quiet backdrop to the flurry of activity as I readied myself for the crucial trip to the island. Every item packed was a reminder of the enormous task that lay ahead – a task where failure wasn't an option. Cass's arrival broke through my focused preparations, her voice soft but laced with concern that mirrored my own.

"Don't you ever sleep? Everyone needs rest, Kegan. Even saviors," she gently chided, her eyes searching mine for signs of the strain I felt but couldn't show.

Halting my movements, I met her gaze, the reality of our situation weighing heavily in my words. "I can't sleep. Going to the island today to take rocket fuel to Abby and Raven so they can go to space to make nightblood. It's our only hope now," I said, the enormity of our last-ditch effort to save humanity hanging between us.

Cass's expression shifted, shadows of guilt and regret passing over her features. "I'm sorry that I couldn't stop that boy from destroying your home," she murmured, her eyes downcast.
