Despite being barred from the war, Alice and Ascella frequently found themselves at order meetings. They refused to not know what was going on.
Both of their husband's continuously told them the stress wasn't good for them, but going on eight months pregnant, the women did as they pleased.
At least, that's how it was for a while.
Ascella was put on bed rest by Madam Pomfrey, who insisted on being her primary care since St Mungo's wasn't safe. . . And because of the prophecy that came to light.
She was livid, considering she didn't like being treated like a child. Ascella believed that she should be helping win the war, instead of sitting in bed while Lily took care of her.
Sirius always asked her, 'how do you expect to win the war if you can't see your feet?' — it often ended with the nearest object being thrown at him.
It was one of those evenings where Ascella sat in the bed she shared with James and pouted. She was heavily pregnant and allowed to pout if she chose to, for Merlin's sake.
She could barely walk without assistance from those around her and it made her feel weak. She hated it.
Her pregnancy had been complicated thus far, making her an even larger priority to those around her.James Potter, being the wonderful husband he was, made sure Ascella wasn't coddled too much, but still got the care she deserved.
He was actively searching for the exact sweets that she had mentioned wanting. Frank Longbottom being with him because they both wanted to please their wives.
Back at Godric's Hollow, Sirius hadn't stopped gloating over the fact that Ascella was having a mini Prongs, who he had affectionately began calling Bambi.
Neither Ascella nor James could get him to stop, which only made him do it more, much to their slight displeasure.Sirius had taken to shifting into his animagus form, acting as a guard dog whenever James wasn't home. He'd watch Ascella do whatever she had to do, all while making sure she and Prongs Jr were alright.
"You don't have to follow me everywhere, you know?" Ascella questioned, sighing heavily as she took a seat at the kitchen table with dinner.
Sirius shifted back to his human self and stared at her for a moment. "How else will I protect you when Prongs isn't here? Anything could happen — madam Pomfrey says you're due anytime and I have to be here if he isn't."
"Yes, I understand that, but just this morning you followed me to the bathroom, Sirius. We have to have boundaries in place here. . . I'll allow you to keep being my guard dog if you learn to make something other than bloody pancakes and if you quit following me into every room. If something is wrong, you'll know almost immediately."
"Fine!" He agreed dramatically, flopping back onto the floor with an exaggerated sigh. Daisy meowed and took up residence on his chest, so he couldn't move.
It was minutes later that James walked through the door to find Ascella at the table with food and his best mate pinned to the floor by a twelve pound feline.
"Part of me doesn't want to ask, but the other part wants to know what exactly happened while I was gone."
"Thats a story he'll have to tell you later. I missed you, love." James kissed the top of her head and rubbed her shoulders."I missed you as well, I can't wait to hear the story. . . Dumbledore said he won't need me again for a while, so I'll be home more."
"That's wonderful news — I left some stew for you, Sirius wasn't hungry. He's taken the role of guard dog very seriously."
"Don't you mean, very Siriusly?"
"Oh for Merlin's sake, not now Padfoot."
