August came fast.
Everything was happening too fast for Ascella to comprehend it properly.
Dora turned six, the anti-werewolf legislation went into act, her and James's first wedding anniversary, a rise in muggle and muggle-born disappearances.
The rise of disappearances meant that James wasn't home often, but when he was, they both took full advantage of it.
It was one of Ascella's days off from the Ministry and she was sat at the kitchen table having tea with Lily and Alice.
The trio of witches were enjoying their time alone, despite being worried out of their minds for their men.At the wedding, Lily had gotten quite close to Fabian Prewett. They'd been on several dates since in the past year and she was a blushing mess whenever he was mentioned.
Mid conversation, Ascella's eyes landed on the charmed calendar that had been tacked to the wall. It was Alice who noticed Ascella's sudden silence and soon Lily did too.
Both women watched as Ascella's expression changed each moment. "Today's the 26th of August, correct?" She questioned quietly, standing from the chair.
"It is, why?" Lily questioned.
"I'm six days late, I haven't had any irregular cycles since fifth year. . .""Merlin!" Alice gasped, standing from her chair and approaching one of her best friends. "Are you. . ."
"I'm not sure. I don't think so. . . I don't feel any different."
"If the two of you had used the contraceptive charm, you wouldn't be in this situation." Lily said as if it was the most obvious thing in the world. To her, it really was.
"We're married, not reckless fifth years anymore, Lils."
"I know." The redheaded woman huffed.Ascella grabbed her wand from the table and lifted up her shirt to reveal her stomach. She pointed the top of her wand at her abdomen and muttered an incantation.
The three women stared at her stomach.
"What exactly are we waiting for?"
"If I was pregnant it would be glowing gold by now. . . Its 100% accuracy, so it appears we were worried for nothing." Ascella said with a smile, though it didn't meet her eyes."You were hoping." Alice said suddenly, noticing Ascella's attempt at hiding her true feelings on the subject.
Her friends would always see right through her.
"Part of me was, but its not the time right now." Ascella admitted. Dreams of a mini Potter running around had been consuming her every night for months.
But it wasn't the time.

"My brother is dead." Was the first thing Ascella heard when she opened the door. Sirius stood on the Potter's porch at an ungodly hour of the morning on October the 26th.
Ascella frowned and let him in.
"You work deep in the Ministry, Ella. Did you know my little brother was dead? Did you know!?"
"No, I didn't know. I don't work in that department, unlike you and half of our bloody friends. . . And keep it down, we have neighbors. Just because you're awake doesn't mean the whole neighborhood should be."
"Maybe they should be awake!"
Anger flared up in Ascella and she whipped her wand out and pointed it at her cousins throat. "Sit and shut up. You will not yell at me in my own home. You sound too much like your mother to be doing that, especially at this hour."
Sirius sat down in the chair and glared up at his cousin. It was then that Ascella noticed he reeked of firewhiskey.
She scoffed and tucked her wand away in the pocket of her house coat. "Merlin, you are unbelievable, Sirius Orion Black." Ascella hissed."Whats going on?" James questioned from the doorway, wiping the sleep from his eyes.
"Nothing dear, I'm just going to smack your best mate silly."
"What did he do this time?" He asked, his eyes finally landing on Sirius. The older boy was sitting in the chair with his arms crossed and s sharp glare set on his younger cousin."He showed up at our home drunk, at four in the morning mind you, and screaming like a banshee throwing around accusations. Regulus is dead and he thinks I knew."
"Did you?" James questioned.
"Merlin, no! This is the first I've heard of it. I was only aware that he had gone missing a few weeks ago, Dumbledore had told us."Sirius's expression softened at the realization. Ascella shook her head and grabbed the blanket from off the back of the couch.
"I see the apology in your eyes Sirius, we will discuss this later when you're sober."
