y/n shuffled through the heavy crowd of students, her hoodie pulled over her head as a lousy attempt at blending in. the last thing she needed was for shu to show up so early in the morning.

it was her eighteenth birthday just the other day, most of which she couldn't even remember.

considering the amount she drank last night, everything blurred together in one cloudy mess. the only specific thing she did remember had to be most horrid highlight of the night, and that was her accidentally slurring out her feelings for her twelve-year best friend while he drover her home.

just the memory of the surprised look on shu's face was enough for her to groan a bit too loud on her way to her locker. slapping herself repeatedly, the students passing by threw her the strangest looks as they headed for class.

the moment she reached her locker, she threw it open and took a deep breath. then she pinched her eyes shut and hopped hysterically on the tips of her sneakers, allowing herself to have a quick breakdown in the privacy of her locker.

mentally crying to herself, she shoved her head against the stack of notebooks inside, chanting quietly under her breath, "that's it, i'm going to transfer schools. i'm going to move out of the house, make a new life for myself, and change my name. i'm going to eat healthy and start some sort of monthly exercise program. i'll help out in the community and be a productive member of society from now on─"

and as if things weren't bad enough, it was at that exact moment that she saw shu walk in from the corner of her eye.

she immediately plunged further into her locker than she already had, silently praying that he wouldn't notice her. half of her upper body was practically cramped in there. it was beyond scorching inside, mixed with the smell of books and various others she couldn't exactly pinpoint.

shu's eyes scanned the number of people in the hallway until he spotted her. his signature lopsided smile laced through his lips almost instantly.

"shit," she cursed under her breath before pulling herself out of her locker in defeat.

shu rushed over to her and said by a way of greeting, "hope you mom wasn't too hard on you last night. i already called her before i got here and told her the whole thing was my idea."

trying her best to act normal, she met his gaze albeit hesitantly. "and?"

"she didn't believe me and just laughed it off."

forcing out a laugh, y/n nodded and slammed her locker shut. then she brushed past him and hastily started making her way to her next class in hopes that if she just didn't speak enough, he would notice and wouldn't bother bringing up what happened last night.

shu didn't seem to get it though. he ran after her, his eyebrows furrowed in confusion.

"hey, you okay?" he asked. the genuine concern in his eyes was enough to break her; she always gave in so easily when it came to him.
