There was once a fire that burned inside me,
Showing all the ashes that I was meant to see,
Clouding my rationality with thick dark smoke,
Ever so deadly, it made my sanity choke.
They all knew how to light the match,
They knew which switch to flick,
Everyone knew how to aim for my catch,
All of them... apathetically, they are all pricks.
Over the years, I have learnt how to tame
The beast that grows within the flames,
I made the animal starve and crave,
Made sure she never misbehaved.
To the chains, I bound her... ground her,
Locked her far away; made sure she stayed.
Without her, I sometimes feel cold
As if, there was no one left for me to scold.
I thought I threw her into the flames,
I thought there was nothing left for me to blame,
In the end, it was part of society's game.
Every time I stare at the glistening metal,
I see her and she looks just the same.
~
It was me who was freezing among the burning flames.
