"Electricity is a recent discovery. Think of 12 things to do when there's no power."
1. Play board- and card-games!
I especially love playing Dutch Blitz, and I think since there's no power, I'd have the other three members of my family ready and willing to play at some point.
2. Back to pen-and-paper!
Since I'd want to save the battery of my laptop and iPod, I'd go back to writing stories on paper... I've always enjoyed that feeling, and I'd have lots of TV-free time to do it.
3. Knit/Crochet!
I'm a knit and crochet freak, and you don't need electricity for that! Well, maybe you need light, but that's easily fixed with a nearby candle or sunlight.
4. Go on a walk/hike!
Wandering around in the neighborhood or forest is really fun sometimes. I would take a notebook too, because I might end up with a good idea for a story.
5. Go biking!
There's nothing like going on a nice ride. Even if it started raining, I'd go out for a little bit.
6. Go swimming!
I'd have to bike to the nearest lake (we don't have a pool), but I think the journey would be well worth it. I could go whenever I wanted to.
7. Read TONS!
I have so many big ol' books that i want to read or reread, that I could take up many powerless days.
8. Write letters!
I wouldn't be able to email, but the post office might be functioning still...
9. Garden!
I have a pathetic amount of gardening experience, but we've got enough books on gardening for veggies that I might be able to pull something off. Plus, if we're powerless for ever, then its good to get a start on veggies before the winter.
10. SLEEP!
I'd get a normal amount of sleep!!! I wouldn't stay up watching TV or listening to music, and my alarm clock wouldn't work, so I could sleep in.
11. get food and water!
Its kind of essential.
12. Do art!
I might not be very good at art, but I'd sure have a lot of time to practice.
