Alice Weasley
It was now November and my Christmas plans were in full swing. We found a company that would transform a photo into cards for a cheap price. I had begun decorating the house for Christmas as well.
The living room was rearranged to fit the large tree in front of the main window. The tree was tall and had a silver star sitting on the highest point. The kids and I had picked which ornaments would go where and I hung them all. They sat on the sofa or the ground and would point to a spot. As they did, they each got a few sweets to eat from my parents.
Our dining room had a mistletoe, a cookie jar shaped as a snowman, and a decorative tablecloth. The tablecloth was red and green plaid. The front door held a wreath of gold and red bells.
Upstairs, I changed our bedding to have white sheets and a thick green comforter on top. The kids each had something Christmassy in their room. Luke chose the jack in the box with Santa and Anne chose a snow globe. I kept the snow globe out of reach and before bed she makes me shake it for her and press the button on the back that plays a Christmas song.
If she doesn't hear Jingle Bells before bed, she doesn't sleep well. I learned that the hard way.
The outside of the house had a few strands of lights, but nothing more. It was cute but simple. We didn't need to go over the top. Christmas wasn't a competition.
Getting to decorate with George and the kids was fun. We only have eighteen years of living with them and a fraction of that is already gone. We may blink and be ten years older and the kids will be teenagers. They will be at Hogwarts and hopefully not goofing off the entire time. Only time will tell if they're more like their father or if they're more like me.
Part of me wishes they could stay young forever and I could spend eternity watching them play with blocks or dolls or other toys. Another part of me wishes they could grow up right now and I can see who they end up becoming. But for now I will cherish them being young and their biggest worry being what type of ice cream they want for dessert.
Currently Anne has been liking mint and Luke has been eating Chocolate.
Today George was at the shop and I stayed home to care for the kids and bring them shopping for the Christmas card outfits.
"It's time to get dressed guys," I said as I put dishes in the sink. I made the kids breakfast and now we needed to get dressed to go shopping. They had bathed last night and therefore didn't need to this morning.
"My dino shirt." Luke said as I helped him down from the seat.
"You want to wear your dino shirt?" I asked.
He nodded his head, "It's got a big green dino."
"You can wear that one." I brought both kids upstairs and found some clothes. "What do you want to wear Anne?" I held up a pink shirt and a gray one. She pointed to the gray one.
I dressed Luke in black pants and his green shirt with a green dino across the front. I then dressed Anne in pastel pink pants and a gray shirt with a pocket on the front.
"Where's daddy?" Luke asked.
"Daddy's at work, honey."
"I want Daddy here," he replied.
"I know, honey." I said, "Maybe after we go shopping we can go see Daddy."
A smile formed on both of their faces at the mention of getting to see their dad at work today.
We got to a large clothing store with racks on racks of different clothes. I navigated to the kids section where we were going to start. There were many different winter themed shirts and jumpers all around us. Some were blue with white snowflakes on them. Others had cute little sayings or Santa on them. Immediately Luke found a gray shirt with Santa riding a dinosaur on it. He wasn't happy to find out he couldn't bring it home.
