Chapter 3

It was nighttime and Ryder tried to get some rest but Akira's eyes wouldn't leave his mind. It felt like she was in every corner of his mind. He cursed and got up again. Ryder moved towards his window and opened it. The fresh and cool night air ruffled through his short hair. Eyes closed, he enjoyed the fresh breeze. He closed his window again and grabbed his phone. Akira had given him her number and he called her. „Ryder? Are you feeling alright?" „I can't sleep. It feels like your eyes are in every corner of my mind." „Well, it was going to happen anyway so...you can come to me tomorrow and we'll do something about this." Ryder listened to her voice and as he did, he felt his body heat up. „I-Is it normal that I am feeling like I am being burned?" „Definitely not. You might actually be a dragon born." „Okay, but how can I get some decent rest now?" His hand grabbed his blanket and squeezed it. Sweat ran down his forehead. Something was clearly off. „If you close your eyes and lay down, I'll put a sleeping spell over you." „Is that safe?" „Hahaha...I have no idea." Her laugh caused Ryder to grin a bit. „Fuck it. I need to sleep." „Well then, good night Ryder." „Good night Akira." Ryder hung up and put his phone on his bedside table. He lay down and closed his eyes. Akira send a spell to him and Ryder started to feel sleepy.

Akira POV
I closed my eyes and focused on finding Ryders presence. When I found him, I linked with him and took a small sip of a sleep potion. Once I fell asleep, Ryder did too. Risky was just that he would only wake up if I did. Hopefully there is no left over when I break the link. Left overs are habits or personality traits that the magician gave or got from the people they have linked with. Left overs could be memories too. There is a wide variety what they could be. But I had bigger problems right now. Ryder had no dream because I was in his mind. He would be able to hear everything I said and even see my image. And that is what happened. „Akira? How are you in my mind? That is my mind though, right?" „Yes. I have linked with you and I took a sip of a sleeping potion. You'll wake up when I wake up. Then I'll break the link." Ryder looked away from me. Was he embarrassed? „Earlier you said that I might be a dragon born or a beast born. What does that mean?" „Beast born means that you have shapeshifting abilities. You can turn into anything you want. That includes creatures like unicorns and thunderbirds. A dragon born on the other hand is extremely dangerous and powerful." I explained to him the power limits that a beast born had and why. He listened closely to my words and my explanation turned into a conversation over anything that came to our minds. At some point I felt my consciousness coming back. „Time to wake up. You can come to me anytime you know?" „I know. Thanks Akira." Ryder smiled and he faded from my vision. Once I was awake, I carefully broke the link.
