I have no idea how court works for restraining orders, or at all so don't come for me. It's a pure guess.

Amaris stood in the police station waiting to be helped. "Amaris Schlatt?" The receptionist asked and she perked up.

"Yeah. That's me." She stood from the chair and walked up to the desk.

"Officer Athena will be helping you today. Just go up those steps and her name plate will be in the desk." He told her and she smiled before heading up. As she spotted the name plate she prepared herself before walking over.

"Officer Athena?" She spoke gaining the older woman's attention.

"You must be Amaris Schlatt." Athena smiled gesturing to the seat next to her desk. Amaris sat down and fiddled with her hands. The whole time they went over everything Athena was very reassuring, kind and didn't push Amaris to say anything she couldn't. She did have to a couple of times because it was needed by the court. "Last thing. Do you have any evidence that he did assault you?"

"I got the bar to give me the security tape of the ordeal and our front door camera caught when he punched me. As for the sexual assault I don't have any evidence."

"That's perfectly fine. The other two things should be good enough."

"Thank you officer." Amaris smiled at the woman.

"Just doing my job. The court order will be mailed to both you and him. You'll plead your case and he'll plead his before anything is decided, but honestly I pretty sure it's a guaranteed win." Athena said as they both stood. Athena walked her out of the station and Amaris waved as she walked to her car to head home.

James was filming with Tommy, but his mind was elsewhere. He couldn't stop thinking as of why she called him the night prior. He knew she was having a panic attack, but why wouldn't she find Minx or Schlatt to help her. Why call him? Was it an accident? Yeah it was just an accident. He thought to himself. But she calmed down after just hearing him talk about nonsense. Did he comfort her just with his voice? "James!" Tommy shouted gaining the older man's attention.

"Huh? What?" James zoned back in staring at Tommy's character.

"You alright? You keep zoning out?" He asked.

"I, uh, yeah. Yeah. I'm all good. Just feeling a bit out of it today." He said not feeling like he wanted to spare details.

"We can film this another time if you want." Tommy said. He didn't want to make one of his closest friends feel like they had to film if they didn't feel right.

"You sure? I mean I can put all my attention on this and we can film." He said not wanting to push his schedule back just because he couldn't focus.

"Yeah. It's all good. I have other videos to post. Go have a mental health day or something."

"Thanks man. Sorry for ruining the recording."

"It's all good. No need to apologize." Tommy said before they bid their goodbyes and hung up. Now he was left alone with his thoughts, for about thirty seconds before his discord was ringing again. This time it was Amaris.

"Hello." He said, his mood improved already.

"Hey. So about last night-"

"Don't worry. I used to have panic attacks too. There's no need to explain."

"I feel like I should."

"Don't feel pressured to tell me why if you're not ready." He heard her take a deep breath.

"I want to tell you." Why did she feel the need to tell a man who lived miles away from her and who she only met merely a month ago about her previous toxic relationship? She had no idea. "My ex, Carter, wasn't the nicest guy. I realize that now because he had me so wrapped up in all his gaslighting that I had no idea what he was doing. I had broken up with him and we went to go celebrate. Minx pulled me onto the dance floor and he came up to me. His mind is so twisted that he still thought we were together. After arguing for about five minutes I finally ripped away from him and ran out of the bar. Then once I was far enough away I sat down and started to have a panic attack, so I called you."

"I'm so sorry. No one deserves to be treated that way. Has he shown up any more?"

"No. I've been home for about half an hour before I called you. I went to the police station to file a restraining order, but now I have to go through the whole process."

"Well, I'm proud of you."

"What for?"

"For gaining the courage to break up with him. I've heard that toxic relationships are hard to get out of, so I'm proud of you." That made her heart swell. She hadn't heard those words in a long time. It made her feel better about what she did and more accomplished that she was able to do it.

"Thank you. It means a lot, Jay."

"So you're calling me Jay now?" He like the way it sounded when she said it.

"You call me Mari."

"Fair enough."

After a week and a half they were in court. Amaris sat on her side with the lawyer Schlatt hired. He has money and he wasn't going to not help his sister. Carter was sat with the lawyer he hired, with the little money he had. They went through the whole process of evidence, statements, evidence, and statements. It took too long. Longer than it should've. Soon it was finally time for the verdict. "I grant the restraining order to be in effect immediately. Carter McCall you are not to be within five hundred feet of Amaris Schlatt." The mallet was slammed and Amaris felt like she could actually breathe for the first time in two years.
