Neteyam's funeral.
Naya an absolute train wreck. She didn't even know the boy that well, but they had some sort of unspoken bond. He had saved her and her brother, and for that, she was eternally grateful.
Naya was only able to speak a few words about the boy for his ceremony. The Na'vi, believed that all energy is borrowed. When someone dies, they have to give that energy back. But Neteyam didn't deserve to die. Neither did anyone else in these wars.
She didn't cry.
She couldn't, for Lo'ak's sake. If she started crying, then he'd start crying, and she'd starting crying even more and it'd be a whole vicious cycle of crying.
These past few days had brought the girl and Lo'ak closer. They hadn't talked about Neteyam, but it was an unspoken thing. They just... Understood each other. Like everything clicked and they didn't even need to say anything.
Neytiri and Jake were down especially. Both parents going through the heartbreak of losing their eldest son. But as a positive, Jake and Lo'ak were finally able to meet eye-to-eye, Jake finally noticing his second son.
Naya'il was proud of Lo'ak, and how he mended his relationship with his father so well. If only Naya could do the same.
She had barely spoken to Ronal and Tonowari. She felt even more alone at some times. She had just found out about her parents yet she feels there was still more she didn't know.
But that very emptiness was filled by Lo'ak. The boy could cheer her up with even a smile or a simple touch. It was quite beautiful.
And now, here Naya was, burying the love of her life's brother.
She sat behind Lo'ak on an Ilu while Neteyam's body was wrapped in vines and seaweed. Ronal sang an ancient song in honour of the boy and his sacrifice.
Lo'ak helped Naya get off of the Ilu as she holds Tuk's hand, with Kiri and Spider beside them. The children all watch as Jake and Neytiri take their eldest son, and place him between the golden plants.
The plants began to cover up Neteyam's body, pulling him in towards it.
Watching this, Lo'ak's grip tightened on Naya's hand. To comfort him, she began rubbing soft circles on his hand with her thumb.
It was going to be okay.
After Neteyam's ceremony, the Sully family had all connected to their spirit tree.
Including them, so did Naya. She had already done so, long ago, but she still felt the need to reconnect.
Grabbing her braid, she takes it to one of the vines, allowing the bond to be made.
Her eyes fluttered open as she looked around.
She wasn't at the ocean anymore. Yet, in a forest.
Taking a step forward, she decides to look around for a while.
That was until an arrow whizzed from beside her.
Looking around, she sees a young Omaticaya boy, holding a bow, with a smile playing at his lips.
"Hello, Naya'il."
The boy skips towards her and she lets out a breath for a laugh. Her eyes were brimmed with tears which the boy saw.
"What's wrong? Did my idiot brother do something to you?"
Naya smiles and shakes her head.
"It's been a long time, Neteyam. It's great to see you again."
Neteyam walks towards the girl with a smile.
"You made it home."
Neteyam's eyes fill with tears now.
"I did, didn't I? I guess Eywa heard my words."
Naya takes a shakey breath and swallows.
"I-I have to go, Neteyam. I'm glad you found your way back."
Naya'il began walking away until Neteyam stops her.
"Naya'il, please don't be sad."
He wipes the tears off of her eyes.
"How can I not be sad, Neteyam?"
Neteyam sighs and then looks into her eyes.
"Go be with Lo'ak. He loves you, you know. And he makes you happy."
Naya shakes her head.
"But, what about you?"
Neteyam chuckles.
"Naya, you said it yourself. I'm home now. My real home, the forest. I'm happy. You must go be happy now."
Naya pulls away from him with a nod.
"You were a great warrior, Neteyam. I will forever be grateful for everything you have done for me."
Naya did not wait for the boy's response, but she began to disconnect. The last thing she sees was Neteyam shooting a bow and arrow.
Happy. He was happy.
