I never felt it when I was young
I never knew where it came from
Now I feel it like a hurricane
Starts out gold, but never stays
And now I feel it in my veins
But I don't want to be afraid
I don't want you to leave☾
Clanging was heard reverberating from the fencing room. The wolf and his teacher were at it again during the early light of the morning, as usual. The regular joking between the two was null as they both focused, not letting their opponent breathe. Y/N's moves were sluggish and telegraphed, his reactions weren't as quick as they should've been; Coach Vlad made sure to capitalize on it. A quick parry and thrust ended the battle. "What plagues you?" Vlad spoke in his thick accent, removing his helm and placing it under his arm. Y/N sighed, where to start? "That obvious?" The wolf responded. He was a bit surprised but he shouldn't have been. The two weren't very mushy with each other but Vlad was probably the one person Y/N spent the most time with at Nevermore. Through sparring, they knew each other better than most did; they didn't have to exchange words for that.
Coach Vlad nodded. They both sat down onto the mat on the floor, the sunrise beamed through the window, bathing the two in gold; making it so Y/N had to squint. He sat still for a moment, in complete silence he contemplated, the coach took the opportunity to encourage him. "Perhaps to do with a certain student?" Vlad asked, in a slight teasing tone. Y/N blew out air through his nose at that remark, his face still neutral. "Perhaps." He responded. His face contorted as he kept thinking. "I don't know what I'm getting into with her." He broke the silence. "But it seems other factors are present, connecting us; for better or worse." He finished. Coach Vlad nodded slowly, he wasn't completely in the loop with the situation; especially not with the previous night. The murder of Rowan was still hush-hush well into the night. "The, ah." Coach Vlad cleared his throat. "Situation last night, contributed?" He tried skirting around it. Y/N hummed. "Yes."
"I trust you will keep this between us two, yes? The topic is still sensitive." The Coach asked his student. "Naturally." Y/N spoke loftily. "Rowan was a weak boy. Terrible duelist. But even one as cowardly as he, did not deserve such a fate." Vlad said, walking on eggshells. Y/N begged to differ, although he did tell him he was going to die slow; he didn't quite mean being torn apart by a monster. He was still a little angry from the previous night, being tossed around like that; he didn't enjoy feeling so small; insignificant. Even more that it was Rowan that did it, it left a bad taste in his mouth. He didn't mean to be so apathetic to the situation, but he was; he barely knew the kid and he tried to kill him. Y/N wouldn't say Rowan deserved it, but better Rowan than himself. The wolf brought up his wrist to check the time. The rest of the students were about to get up.
"I'm leaving." Y/N told his teacher, getting up and stripping his fencing gear off. Coach Vlad nodded and followed suit. Once the two were back into their clothes, Y/N started to make his way out of the fencing room. "Be so sloppy again and I won't take it easy tomorrow." Vlad spoke to the boy as he scoffed in amusement and left.
"It's early."
Y/N was interrupted by a voice from behind him. "Quite." He spoke, turning around and facing the petite goth. She wore almost the same exact outfit as the night before, swapping out her pants for a more comfortable pair. "What are you doing?" The goth asked, walking up to face him. The boy turned again and continued on his path, heading up the stairs as Wednesday followed. "I have to speak to Weems." Y/N informed her, taking a steady pace up the stairs. The academy was so deserted it seemed dead, the sound of his every step echoing throughout the halls seemed amplified. "What for?" Wednesday inquired, following right behind him like a shadow. If someone saw the two right now, they'd probably laugh.
