A screeching sound echoed through the small room as a hawk flapped its wings angrily.
"I'm already awake." Says a tired voice as a small girl sits up on her ratty mattress. Her long black hair is messy and in her face covering her tired eyes.
The hawk flew down and handed the girl her glasses before pulling the covers off her small body.
"Breakfast is something you have to get on your own this time. I'm going to be busy today." She says before opening the window of her small room and letting her hawk out. But he stands stubbornly on the windowsill not moving.
"Hayabusa, I'll get breakfast at the Chip Shop." Says the young girl and the hawk nods before leaving as if satisfied with her answer.
She went to her small wardrobe and pulled out black ripped jeans and a black hoodie that were warn out and had a red hawk design on the back that she had painted on.
She walks out of her hideout and grabs her bike before making her way to the Chip Shop. People got out of her way quickly and made sure not to make eye contact with her since her glare was too scary for them.
"Oh hey Irene." Says a voice as she parks her bike. She looks over at who called out to her and rolls her eyes.
"Gil, you get kicked out again?" She asks while looking down at the boy sitting on the steps of Ursula's Fish and Chips.
"Yeah, but what are you doing here?" He asks as she took a seat next to him.
"Uma asked for me to come see her today." She says just as someone comes and sits next to her.
"Well, well, well. Hello Irene, it's so nice to see your lovely face." Says Harry while caressing her face with his hook.
"Hi Harry." Says Irene in a bored tone before smacking his arm away from her face.
"Uma is not very happy with you." He says while Gil starts to braid the ends of Irene's hair.
"Yeah why do you think I'm here so early in the morning?" She says scowling, as she is not a morning person at all.
She then gets up and walks into the Chip Shop, she sees Uma who points at the nearest table. Irene goes to sit at a table where Uma joined her seconds later sitting across from her.
"Irene." She says with her arms crossed as she glares at the small girl who keeps Uma's gaze not backing down.
"I heard that when you made your rounds you didn't bring back any money." She says and Irene rolls her eyes before leaning forward and glaring at Uma.
"I thought we were going to be better than Mal when we got her territory. But now you want to be just like her? Taking money from those less powerful than us." She says and Uma gets up smacking her hands on the table hard.
"I am nothing like Mal!" She says earning the attention of everyone in the restaurant with her loud voice.
"Not yet." Says Irene also standing up her eyes glowing gold for a second before going back to her natural brown eyes.
"Look Irene we have to fight to survive everyday, and we can only do that by doing what we do." Says Uma not wanting to anger the usually calm girl.
"Whatever." She says before turning to leave.
"Irene." Says Uma but Irene doesn't turn around as she leaves the restaurant.
"Hey Irene." Says Gil still sitting on the steps.
"Hi." She says again and Gil gets up when he sees that she's upset.
"Are you leaving already?" He asks and Irene nods her head.
"I have to do rounds." She says with bitterness to her voice.
"I'll join you." He says with smile and Irene can't help but smile too.
They walk down the streets talking and Irene decided to have Gil do the stealing instead of her. She never liked stealing and all the things Uma expects her to do. She used to wish she was where Mal was, she had it so good. To be able to live in a place where people respected you because you were nice or good and not because of how scary you were.
That's how Irene used to think until the day those four were chosen to go to Auradon, which was the day her whole world fell apart. She wasn't the type to care if she scared people off the more scared of her they were the better. But a small part of her still didn't like stealing so she tried to do the minimum to get away from Uma's wrath.
She was pushed out of her thoughts when Gil shoved her slightly making her almost lose her footing; she looked over and saw a blond haired boy bumped into him.
"Hey watch it." Says Irene shoving the tall blond boy in blue away from Gil.
"Hey I know you." Says Gil with a smile on his face making Irene roll her eyes. How was he okay with this moron pushing him?
Then his friends came to join him not wanting to make eye contact with Gil. Irene looked at them and immediately hid behind Gil's larger body pulling her hood to cover her face more.
"No don't know you either man." Says the blond boy.
"Uh yeah I do. Come on man, really? Dude I'll give you a hint, my dad is quick, slick, and his neck is incredibly thick." Says Gill while pointing to his neck, but the group just looks everywhere but at Gil.
Jay looked behind Gil and noticed a figure standing there; he would have thought nothing of it if it hadn't been for a bracelet that was peaking out from the sleeve of their hoodie.
'This couldn't be her, right?' He thought.
Then Gill saw a poster behind the group and gasped.
"You're king Ben!" He says. The guy just ties to deny it as his group pulls him away from Gill and making a run for it.
"Yeah you totally are king Ben. And you're Jay, Carlos, Evie, hey guys." He says then looks down in realization.
"Oh Uma's gonna love this!" He says before grabbing Irene's wrist and running off.
"Gil wait!" She exclaims trying to force her tiny legs to keep up with him as he runs to the Chip Shop.
