prologue. what the fuck!
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Danielle was fucking pissed. And rightfully so, considering that she was having to let two complete strangers into her home.

Well, 'strangers' may have been an exaggeration, but Dani felt that was the best way to describe them. Her father, Gregory, had just married her now stepmother, Rebecca. And with Becky came her son, who never in a thousand lifetimes would Dani call her brother– stepbrother– whatever the hell he was.

All Dani knew was that he was annoying, broody, and every interaction they had ever had was just them trying not to strangle each other for the sake of their parents. But boy, did Connor make it hard; his habit of hurling a snide remark at Dani every time he passed by her only resulted in yet another argument starting. See, Dani could never be the bigger person and ignore Connor, and the both of them knew that. Which is exactly why Connor would continue to make leering comments at his stepsister, at least for as long as they were in this predicament of having to live under the same roof.

Since Becky and Connor had agreed to move to Beacon Hills, Dani had been asked by her father to show a little compassion for their sacrifice. She had also been tasked with the most fulfilling job of showing Connor around town, and helping him get engaged with the young adults who resided there.

Dani figured the latter would probably be the hardest part, considering Connor's temperamental nature. But Dani also supposed that if he ended up not making any friends, she would not be to blame because at least she could say she tried.

Nonetheless, for her first order of business, Dani thought up a great way to initiate her stepbrother to Beacon Hills, California.

A party.

"Alright, bitchboy, are you ready for your first Beacon Hills kegger?"

Connor cut a deep glare to Dani from the passenger seat of her car, thumbing at the corners of his mouth with a scoff.

"Bitchboy," he echoed, unbuckling his seatbelt. "That's creative, I like that one. It's kinda endearing."

Dani merely rolled her eyes, keys jangling in her hand as she removed them from the ignition. "My best advice is that we keep our distance from each other while we're here, 'kay? 'Kay."

Popping open the car door, Dani got out and left Connor behind without a moment's hesitation. She set off in search of Lydia, checking her phone to see if she had missed any texts from her. But it was only seconds before she spotted the Martin girl, red Solo cup in hand as she stood beside one of the silver kegs of beer.
