chapter one.     like, ghosts and shit?
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Dani was kind of unsure about her life at the moment.

Whatever had happened at the semi-formal was something Dani could not explain– nor did she want to. She did not exactly want to find out what happened to Lydia Martin, she supposed.

Dani strode out of the elevator of Beacon Hills Hospital, making her way down the hall. She had been there for almost the entire weekend, and there had been only one other person that stayed there to keep her company. As she turned to corner to Lydia's room, she saw that he was unsurprisingly still there.

Stiles Stilinski, a nerd with a buzzcut that had had a thing for Dani since like, kindergarten, was passed out across two chairs in the waiting area. Beside him, a 'Get Well Soon' balloon. Dani knew that Stiles had a crush on her at some point; she just didn't know that it had been nearly their entire life.

With a small shake of her head, Dani continued toward the nurse.

"Ms. McCall?"

The brunette woman turned, smiling softly. "Dani, hi again. I'll have to go check on Lydia and see if she wants any visitors right now, so just wait out here for a sec."

Dani nodded with mild impatience, turning back around with a deep exhale. She glanced at Stiles, then took a few steps over and shook him by the shoulder.

"Wake up, Stilinski. You're drooling."

Stiles shot up, blinking dumbly as he looked around in a daze.

"Oh hey– hey Dani. Um, how– how long have I been asleep?"

Dani shrugged, skipping a chair between them and sitting down. "Longer than I've been here," she mumbled in response.

He stifled a yawn, tapping his feet on the floor as he looked around. Dani sat there with her arms around her purse, waiting in silence.

"I think I'm gonna go get something from the vending machine," Stiles announced, standing. "Do you want anything?"

Dani cut her eyes up at him, giving one headshake.

"A-Alright. I'll be right back, then."

She gave him a look, silently asking Stiles why he was telling her this. He scratched the back of his neck rather awkwardly, then turned with a squeak of his shoes and walked off.

Not too long after, Ms. McCall returned.

"She just went to get a shower," Melissa informed Dani, "but I told her you're here."

Dani gave a curt nod. "Thanks."

A few more minutes passed of Dani sitting there, dwindling her fingers and picking at her cuticles. Suddenly, from around the corner came a loud crash.
