The warm summer air did nothing to calm the nerves of the dark-haired girl, the hood of the soft leather jacket threatening to slip off her head and expose her mane of soft curls. Her hands tightened on the strap of the weather beaten pack on her back with anxiety. Months of traveling had taken its toll on her but instead of wearing her down, it had kept her going. Her senses had been at the top of their game. Her guard had never fallen the entirety of her journey. She couldn't risk getting into trouble. It was much easier roaming the country when you don't have to slip the cops and become a fugitive. She took out plenty of demons during the trip, never backing down from a fight. Yet, the moment a mundane looked at her the wrong way, she bolted. It had taken her weeks to get to New York and about three days to find the street where the abandoned church was. She probably would have found it faster if Jonathan had been with her. He had always been the better hunter. Her jaw hardened as she clenched her jaw. Stop it; she thought to herself. Her brothers had been dead for several months now. She had no time for wistful thinking. That was one of the first things she remembered her father teaching her. You could mourn but you could not let grief pull you down. That will you get you killed. She crossed the street and stopped on the steps of the Institute. Well, she hoped it was. She had never been in one. Her family had always lived away from everyone.Growing up, she never got to play with other girls her age. Or any children her age. It was always just her, Father and Jonathan. And she was completely fine with that. She took in the sight of the old church and slowly peeled the glamour away as she was taught to. Slowly the Institute was revealed. Exactly as her brother had described. She reached up and pulled to ring the bell as to alert them of her arrival, even though she knew the door would open to anyone of Shadowhunters blood. It was just nice to be invited in for a change.
Clary, Jace, Isabelle and Simon were supposed to be training. Instead they were having a movie marathon. Clary and Simon had taken it upon themselves to educate Jace and Izzy on the teenage mundane world. That involved numerous trips to the grocery store to educate them on the wonders of American junk food and binge watching "Friends" and plenty of anime. Clary had made a mental note never to let Jace watch "Dragon Ball Z". He stood for 20 minutes in front of a mirror, yelling and trying his hair to stand up in points. After questioning on his activities, he argued that he already had the blond part down, he just needed to nail the glowing thing. They were currently watching "Star Wars" at Simon's request. They were halfway through the second movie, with Jace constantly asking what was going on, when the door bell rang. They all reacted to the sound with raised eyebrows. The Institute didn't get too many visitors since not many Shadowhunters had a reason to be in New York. Jace was the first to stand. "Maybe it's Alec with food" Jace said as he made his way toward the now empty pizza boxes, hoping for the sight of another slice. "You always think it's Alec with food" Isabelle responded. Clary paused the movie. "Well, someone's got to answer the door." Simon pushed himself off the floor. "I'll go" He made his way out of Izzy's bedroom and jogged down the hall into the rickety old elevator. He pressed the button, headed down and pushed open the door to the Institute. He looked down at the petite green-eyed girl on the front steps. "Hey there, kid. Are you alright?" She lifted her head and raised her eyebrow in a oddly familiar way. "My name is not kid." Her eyes seemed to burn into him as her leather gloved hand tightened into a fist. "My name is Angelica Morgenstern. And you're responsible for the death of my family.
