Roserade was hatched from an egg Riddle had found in his garden when he was young. He tended to the egg in secret till it hatched and they've been friends ever since. One day his mother found out and shooed the little Budew away and that had left the boy in tears. He was so distraught that he had sneaked out that night to find his friend only to be attacked by a wild Pokémon. Alone and defenceless he couldn't do anything more than cower in fear, that was until a familiar scent filled the air. He looked to see a familiar face go up against the wild Pokémon. But it did not last long till the Pokémon collapsed. Riddle went to aide it and protect the fallen friend. The wild Pokémon was then about to pounce when the sun was rising a bright light suddenly shown, not the light from the sun, but a light of hope, growth and connection. A storm of colourful leaves then sent the Pokémon flying as the one that had done it revealed to be a Roselia who evolved from the Budew through the friendship Riddle built with it and his determination to protect it. The boy went closer to the Pokémon as he reached out his hand to reveal a pokeball.

"I know mother said not to... But I already made this decision a long time ago. So Bud- I mean Roselia... Will you be willing to become my Pokémon?"

Roselia said nothing but stared at the ball as he stretched it's arm bumping the spherical item with it's red petal as it entered the pokeball and submitted with no resistace. The little boy teared up as he hugged the pokeball. Riddle knew he disobeyed his mother by interacting with wild Pokémon without her consent. Riddle knew he disobeyed her by stealing a pokeball from her. Riddle knew he disobeyed his mother by picking his first partner not from those she chose but one he raised himself. But Riddle also knew, the moment the little Budew came out of its egg... That he was going to change things... And that started with his new found friendship.

It was a little after Riddle had become gym leader. He broke out of his mother's parental preferences for his future and decided to become someone that placed judgement and justice upon his hometown. He became someone who could protect what he believed in. Anyways, it was another day in his garden, a garden filled with Pokémon and mostly Budews as he always dreamed he would. Around this time of day a certain flower that attracted a certain Pokémon bloomed. He came around to find a little sleeping Shaymin. He knew what Pokémon it was, so he stayed at a distance and did nothing more but observe it. Soon it was time to feed the Pokémon. He had left a bit of food on the side for the little Shaymin and went on his way. The next day he came back to find the Shaymin was still there. It went on for so long that the flowers went out of season. And when Riddle thought the Shaymin had said farewell he found the small Pokémon in a pot at his window sill.
