Music For The Chapter: Udd Jaayega by Sagar Desai, Amit Trivedi from Qala
I woke up and found myself lying at the beach. Akshay's anga vastra was wrapped over me like a blanket. My stomach churned with hunger. I felt exhausted like I was draining out. My head hurt.
I looked into the night sky at the beach. It reminded me of Nandini and the whole fiasco.
'Amma, will I ever be free of her?'
I heard laughing. Omkara extended the cup to me and sat down, laughing a bit. "You do know that once you are born, the entanglements with people are unavoidable. You will never be free of them till the day you experience moksha."
Tears lined my face thinking about it. I pushed my head between my knees, tears falling down. It weighed down on my shoulders.
"I know it hurts a lot but trust me at some point you will feel quite better. You may never be completely free of her but at some point, it will stop hurting." He thought for a while and then decided to get my mind off that, "Do you know that Devraj loves soma quite a lot? He almost healed a hunchback from her struggle for soma."
I laughed. "Really?"
"Yes. I'll tell you the story of soma. Long ago, when Devas were battling the army of Bhandasura, he had two asuras. Vishukra and Vishanga. Both of these, in a battle against Saktis and Devas, spread extreme thirst among the army. All of them became extremely thirsty. Even the oceans were not capable of fulfilling their thirsts. So, Maa Shyamala suggested to Maa Varahi that she has a soldier in her army. Surasindhu. He is the deity of all juices. That includes alcohol and other drinks. Mantrini Maa suggests that he could quench the thirst of all the Saktis and Devas and revive them. Surasindhu then creates a drink by the order of Sri Varahi that is capable of energizing the weak, causing a high amount of energy within them, it can heal all the injuries. It smells sweet and tastes sweet. It has a golden color. This is called Soma or Sura. When the Saktis drank this Sura, they instantly were energized. They were dancing and swinging."
"Sounds a lot like they got drunk."
He laughed. "I'm yet to find a person who can take on a battle while drunk and survive it. It is not like the alcohol which you make by fermenting it. Soma is capable of joining broken bones, cleaning the body of poisons, taking away tiredness and exhaustion, and bestowing upon them vigor. Alcohol on earth takes away people's vigor and makes them weaker. It destroys the liver. Soma doesn't. Soma is just wonderful in taste. Alcohol is a fermented drink. Soma is not fermented. Also, alcohol is bitter in taste, unlike Sura which is sweet." He passed it to me with a grin. "It isn't easily available. So, here. Try."
I took the cup from him and took a sip. I have tasted strawberry crushes and this was so much better than that. Sweet but also a bit sour. A bit flowery in taste and slightly fruity. "Oh... this is actually good." I felt like my energy was returning. Like my nerves were piling up with energy.
