May 1939
Bucky and Anastasia were walking through the streets and heard grunts and groans nearby.
Bucky mumbled a string of courses, causing Anastasia to frown.
She followed Bucky as he briskly made his way to the alley.
He pulled a man away from a small, skinny man who wasn't much taller than Anastasia.
"Get outta here," Bucky told the man, turning to Steve. "You gotta stop doing this."
Steve frowned. "He took a lady's bag."
"And you hit him."
"No, I gave the bag back and gave him a piece of my mind. He hit me and I hit him back."
Bucky let out a frustrated sigh. "I swear, you gotta stop doing this. It's gonna get you hurt one day. Or killed."
"Someone's gotta defend the little guys. You know how I feel about bullies. Anya?"
"Anastasia," Anastasia corrected.
"I thought your name was Anya."
Anastasia stepped up to Steve and held out her hand. "It's nice to meet you as I truly am, Steve. My name is Anastasia."
Steve frowned. "Not the missing Grand Duchess?"
"That's exactly who I am, but I would rather just be as I am. I rather like civilian life and the two greatest friends I could have ever asked for, as reckless as they are."
"Thanks?"
"Take it as a compliment. It was meant to be such."
"Then I'll take it as such." He dusted himself off. "Let's go."
The three left the alley. Bucky was still mildly irritated that he'd had to rescue his friend once again. Anastasia took Bucky's hand and shook her head, telling him to calm down and he began doing so.
