"Pa?" Addie asks quietly, gently tugging on my shirt. "Are you okay? Do you want to talk about what happened?"

"No," I answer plainly, continuing to make the kids' breakfast.

"Auralie says that you'll feel better if you talk to someone about it."

"I said no!" I shout.

Addie lets go of my shirt and steps away. She sniffles and then leaves the kitchen. But someone taps my arm. I sigh and turn to them. It's Auralie, unsurprisingly.

I know you're upset with Michael, she signs. But remember that he still loves you. She gives me a sad smile. He's had a bad life. It takes a lot of time to heal from that.

How do you know that he's had a bad life? I ask.

I asked him why he has nightmares every night.

I nod my head in understanding.

Did you and Michael get in a fight because he needs time to heal? she asks.

I'm not sure. I don't understand what we fought about. He was saying different things at the same time, so it was hard to keep up. I think about what I'm going to say next. I think you're right, though.

Of course, I'm right, she signs cockily. She sticks her tongue out at me, waves goodbye, and wheels away.
