Synopsis/plot: Valentine's Day
.........................................................El had been counting down the days since the day she moved back to Hawkins for Valentines Day. Just the thought of hanging out with the special someone you love felt ever so special. The most El had ever gotten out of Valentine's Day were a few cards and lousy old flowers that would probably die in the next week or so, but what she truly wanted was just a time to appreciate the people she loved.
With her head in a book for hours, she was finally interrupted by a call on her phone, she reached her hand out for the phone and answered it. "Hello? Who is this?"
Michael, who was on the other line smirked, "can you come over?"
She smiled when she recognized his distinctive voice, "I think so.. I'll have to ask Hop."
"Alright, call me back if he says no." And the call ended.
El thought it was a little odd for him just to hang up like that, especially on Valentine's Day. No 'goodbye?' No 'I love you?' No anything? Something was definitely up.
"Hey, dad?" El gave Jim a silent tap on the shoulder.
He turned to her, his head looked like it could've done a full 360, "yes, kid?"
"Can I go to Mike's tonight?" She asked.
Hopper rolled his eyes and nodded, "have fun holding hands for hours."
She chuckled and headed back into her rooms to back some extra clothes, packed Mike's present, and packed some feminine products just incase anything unexpected happened. In all honesty, El was kind of nervous on her way there to Mike's. What if something were to happen between them? More hearts get broken on Valentine's Day than any other day.
After walking for about 15 minutes she arrived at Mike's door step. She knocked a few times before Karen answered the door with a bright smile on her face, everything seemed normal to El, just one thing. Once she reached upstairs there was a trail of rose petals leading to Mike's room. El followed the trail and reached his door, her clammy knuckles knocked on his door gently waiting for him to answer.
The door opened slightly, Mike sticked his head out of the small open space of the door and greeted El. "Wasn't expecting you to be here this early.."
In suspicion she took a few steps forward, "well.. I am."
Mike couldn't help to smile and blush, "I guess you are. Come in."
As El entered the room her eyes wandered around the place as if she had never been in his room before, fairy lights were hanging brightly, cute paper hearts were taped onto the walls, and his bedsheets were changed to small red hearts.
El felt a sense of relief when she entered his bedroom, "Mike! What is this?"
Mike grabbed both her hands and sat on the bed, "this is my gift to you for Valentine's Day."
Her eyes were still wandering around, everything was so pretty and organized, definitely something you wouldn't expect from Mike.
Mike reached under his bed and grabbed a large pink gift bag that had hearts everywhere. Poking out the sides of the bag were red and white tissue paper, the bag smelt like fields of fresh strawberries. Mike handed her the back, it was a little heavy and hard to open with one hand so she set it on the bed. Inside the bag was a bunny stuffed animal, a pearl necklace, a duck stuffed animal, heart pajama pants, paper roses, and a hand painted bowl with the initials JH.
Her smile was wider than the moon, she put the pearl necklace on, "thank you!"
"That's not all, wait there." Mike headed outside of his room to find the last present.
El felt guilty thinking about the present she got him, all she had gotten him was a journal with some ballpoint pens and a homemade card. "Oh, Mike."
He arrived back in the room with a tiny box, the box was velvety black with small imprints that you couldn't read unless you were looking right on it. Mike opened the box slowly, inside was a gold ring with a small gold heart.
Her eyes widened as she realized what it was, "Mike- That's so expensive! Stop!"
He looked down at the ring, "but.. its a promise ring."
El admired the object in his hand, "Its very pretty."
"Give me your hand," Mike put his hand out expecting El to put hers on top of it. When she did, he slipped the ring on her middle finger and kissed it.
"You didn't have to do all of this, you know." El hugged him.
"I know."
