Jennie paces around the scarred, elegant-mysterious, welcoming yet somber, slightly off house, a pout on her lips and a crease between her eyebrows. She lets out a huff as she reaches one side of her room and twirls around to pace back to the other side.
She knows she's being unreasonable.
She knows she's being a brat on a day that is only supposed to be filled with celebration and joy, but she couldn't help the small seed of negativity that grew within her. Jennie is no doubt extremely happy for her older sister, Jisoo. She wishes only the best for her dear older sister and was most excited to be the one standing beside her on the altar as Jisoo and her beloved Chaeyoung tied themselves together for eternity.
However, over the course of the evening, the ceremony and celebration only reinforced the notion that Jennie didn't want to acknowledge: that she was decisively and resolutely alone.
Jennie kept her smile on during the evening for as long as she could. She is happy for her sister and new sister-in-law, truly. Both Jisoo and Chaeyoung knew this, and were in fact pushed to get married by Jennie, but they also knew her worries. Seeing Jisoo and Chaeyoung so in love, looking at each as if nothing else in the world existed but each other ㅡ made Jennie think about how she had no one like that, who would look at her like that.
Jennie had tried before, dating with people from the city who lived beyond the dark forest that encompassed her familial home, but they never understood her. Upon sight of Jennie, with her wavy, jet black-hair, black gothic style; they would either make an excuse to go to the bathroom, which Jennie has learned they used to escape because they never came back, or start snickering as they gulped down more alcohol than preferable on a first date before making some crude remarks.
Jennie has sat one too many times at a cafe or restaurant table, with shoulders curled in and head down as her date never returned. Jisoo had told Jennie to stop once she had returned home sobbing, again, because her date had humiliated her in a public space in front of an audience. It was a good thing she hadn't brought November that day or else she would have surely blown up on the man. After that incident, Jennie never left the comfort of her home and forest.
Jennie couldn't understand why no one was accepting of who she was entirely, why no one would look at her the same way Jisoo looked at Chaeyoung, whenever her sister-in-law would throw her entire body onto her older sister's because she couldn't contain her laughter.
So there she was, pacing her room because Jennie had become too overwhelmed by her clan and the concerned eyes Jisoo and Chaeyoung threw her way during the entire night.
"I know, they're just worried for me." Relents Jennie, pace slowing down as the tension slowly melts away from her body.
"It's a joyous day. The moon is full in the sky, the entire Kim clan has gathered, Aunt Gahyeon even found her right eye for the occasion and little Hyunseok had his first cigar!" Insist Jennie, as she lowers herself onto the edge of her grand bed.
"I'm being stupid, aren't I November?" Jennie exclaims with a sigh. She brings her left hand up to her right ear, where a little, black widow spider is waiting, ready to jump onto the hand.
"I should go back down and enjoy the party. It's not every day everybody can gather and I want them to stop worrying, it's their special day." Jennie whispers to her black widow pet, November, as she brings her hand to the front of her face. The little spider rests comfortably on the back of her hand, paying no mind to Jennie's usual ramblings.
