Chapter 1: Harry's POV
Her eyes. Those beautiful brown eyes. She has short crimson hair that dances around her face. That smile, more enchanting than the ocean on a summer's night. I don't allow her to meddle with my emotions. But I cannot help staring. Never have I ever felt this way. Yes, I've had my fair share of lovers, but it was never serious. It was never like this. There's something different about her. Something incredibly different.
Bay's POV
The winter wind nips my ears playfully. I tug my hat down and let out a huff. Being cold is not my thing. Never was never will be. Colorado has never felt like home to me.
"Aww, Bay! Stop being such a downer, you loser!" Mimi yells as she pushes off down the steep hill. How she did she get me agree to go snowboarding wit her? It's not like I'm bad, I just hate the cold. We've been out for hardly an hour, and I'm already ready to throw in the towel. Or in this case, the glove? I can't stop staring at my phone. I've been glued to it the entire tim. Time is playing tricks on me.
Mimi is already at the bottom of the hill guess when I look up. I roll my eyes and decide to join her. I waddle my way to the top of the hill strapped into my board. I begin down hesitantly. Hard ice is crunching beneath my board and the frigid winter air cuts the sides of my face. Inhaling and exhaling becomes more difficult the faster I go. After the thrilling 30 second ride, I slow down remarkably.
"See that, Mimi? I can be fun if I try." I say between exhausted huffs.
She laughs and ushers me over to the ski lift. It's hard on the butt, but that thought falls away fast. On the ski lift in front of us sits someone who quickly catches my attention. He seems my age, 18, and his board is a mix of crazy designs ranging from abstract colors to words I cannot read. Even though I only see the back of his head, I'm already intrigued. His posture is lazy, yet relaxed. I catch my self and snap out of this idiotic daze. Because of him, I nearly missed getting off the lift. The mysterious guy walks away holding his board. And just as fast as he came, he's gone.
"Ohhh, Bay did I see you eyeing that cutie over there?" Mimi nudges my arm winking at me.
"What? No. I was just.. thinking about...jackets?" I blush and look away fast.
"You liar. You know, it's okay to have crush. How long have you been single?"
"Mimi, you know I can't control that."
"That's a great excuse." She rolls her eyes, and I know the argument is over. So what I find this mystery guy fascinating? Just because I don't know him doesn't mean I can't wonder about him.
"Mimi, I'm getting really cold," I say shivering.
"Yeah, me too," Mimi looks around, "I guess we'll head in after this hill."
Finally.
She heads down first. Shocker. I don't mind it, but she never gives me a change to get ready. My boots refuse to lock in, and it takes a few good minutes of jumping up and down to hear the click. I walk up to the edge and push off. All of a sudden, it gets cold. And I mean real cold. The air feels as if it dropped twenty degrees, and is clawing at me mercilessly. A sharp, stringing pain jabs me every second it gets. Ice shoots up from under my board and hits me dead in the eyes. I cannot see a thing. I'm out of control. I keep trying to wipe my eyes, but nothing's working. I start to panic. A loud click and know my boot is out of my board. I'm blind, going haywire, and snowboarding one footed down an extremely icy, slick hill.
Then, boom. I hit a huge, hard snow patch and scream loudly. I plummet straight down. Ice barbs stick into me, and I tumble face first down the hill. After what feels like years, I reach the bottom. My right ankle is in excruciating pain. Am I dead? I wonder. No, no I'm in pain. I can't be dead. I lay there unable to move staring at the sky. I can barely open my eyes, but it looks like a mixture of tar and death swirling in harmony. Damn, I'm an idiot.
I see a shadow lean over me. I cannot make out who it is. A large pair of unfamiliar hands run across my head cascading down to my neck. It hurts. The shadow lifts me up.
"Are you okay? Can you hear me?" A husky, male voice asks. His voice rises up to the heavens. It's smoother than honey. I want to hear him talk more. I need him to talk more.
"I...I...Ow" I mange to say. I slowly touch my lips and instantly feel blood.
"Can you say your name at all? Can you-" Silence. His glorious voice cuts off to dead silence. "Bay. Bay, is that you?"
I try and open my eyes to get a better look at him. I recognize the beanie. The mysterious guy.
"H-H-How do y-you know m-m-my name?" I shiver out the challenging words.
"Bay, do you remember me? I was in your art class until you switched out."
His face is familiar. I study the features. Long, shaggy, brown hair. Oh, how I want to run my hands through those ringlets. What am I saying? Everywhere is numb. His green eyes are shadowed due to the winter night, but I can tell they are full of concern. He is breathtaking. As my thoughts of him continue on, it dawns on me.
"Harry? Harry Styles," Mumbling is all I can manage.
He releases a smile. It's beautiful. His teeth are pearls, and somehow, that one smile warms up my ghastly body.
"Bay, Mimi on the ski lift. I'm going to take you to the infirmary, okay?" He's still smiling. I nod.
He picks me up carefully. I feel the light slowly draining away. All I can see is darkness.
