Callen is labeled as a "bad boy" by his classmates due to his rebellious behavior and poor academic performance. His tough exterior masks a troubled past: his mother died in a car accident when he was eleven, which led to a drastic change in his personality. He now lives with his abusive, alcoholic father. Despite his outward defiance, people sometimes forget just how fragile Callen really is when all they see in him is his rebellious attitude and smart mouth. What they don't see is when he gave the homeless man money even when he desperately needed it for himself, or when he helped a little girl cross the busy road. There's a part of Callen that is hidden in the shadows, where no one bothers to look.

Mark or other known as Callens dad is a heavy drinker who is abusive towards Callen. He hasn't always been this way though, he used to be an amazing father until his wife died/Callens mom,and now he takes all his anger out on Callen.
