after having a bomb go off right underneath him, hotch was not okay. he wasn't even close to okay. kate died. he could have permanent hearing loss if he wasn't careful. not to mention the fact that he can barely go out into the field without wanting to rip his own hair out from the intense pain. he truly thought things had couldn't get worse but then strauss told him that he was getting sign interpreter that would accompany the team on every. single. case.

hotch fully blames dave for this. yes, he knows the man is worrried about him but he doesn't need some babysitter following him around everywhere he goes. plus now he has to spend extra time outside of work learning sign for an hour two days a week for 4 weeks instead of being with his son.

samantha quinn is a semi retired fbi agent. she used to work in the counterterrorism unit but after a couple too many scarring cases, she retired from field work and started teaching asl classes at quantico. she loves being a teacher, forming that close bond with all of the new recruits, and getting to watch them all succeed. the struggle with doing what you love as your job though always come with a price. after a while, it stops being something you enjoy but something that you have to do everyday.

so when sam got asked about becoming ssa hotchner's personal interpreter, she was actually kind of excited. the bau was easily one of the best units in the fbi and they help people all around the country. she wishes she could be on their team but they're like a family already. that's the only thing making her nervous. what if they all hate her? hotch is known for being a grumpy hardass who never smiles. she can only hope that everything will go well and the bau team will enjoy her company as much as she'll enjoy theirs. she needs a change of pace and this is the perfect opportunity for that.
