CHAPTER THREE | PRE 04.03

•••

hotch is dreading this lesson. he's embarrassed that agent quinn heard what he said about her out of anger and he's angry at emily and dave and strauss and agent quinn even though none of this is her fault but aaron is being irrationally angry and he'a willing to place his anger anywhere he can.

hotch slowly walks out of his office and into the bullpen and towards the elevator, going as slow as humanly possible without being too noticeable with his stalling.

when he reaches the elevator, he hears emily call out from her desk.

"have fun with your babysitter!"

"prentiss, don't make me give you even more paperwork." hotch announces while pressing the button on the elevator.

he rides the elevator to agent quinn's office, he tried to sneak out of the bullpen earlier but dave caught him and dragged him back to his office and locked the door until it was time for him to leave, so here he is. in front of agent quinn's decorated door. he hates to admit it but she seems like a great person and that makes him hate this even more because it's going to be incredibly hard for him to hate her.

he knocks on the door and hears a very cheery 'come in' from inside and takes that as his que to open the door.

when hotch fully steps into the office and closes the door behind him, he is blinded by agent quinn's very colorful and decorated walls. it's very clear that agent quinn is very well loved by her students and coworkers and it looks like even some kids. he'll have to subtly ask her about that later.

agent quinn greets him with the brightest smile that he's ever seen.

"hello agent hotchner, how are you doing?" she practically beams as she addresses the grumpy agent in front of her.

"fine. you?" hotch stiffly responds.

"i'm great! i just had lunch with some of my students and they always make my day."

hotch simply nods and moves to sit down in the chair in front of agent quinn's desk.

she sits down at her desk and smiles at the man briefly before pulling things out her purse and setting them on the desk.

"since today is our first meeting, i thought we should start with the very basics. we'll go through the alphabet and a couple basic signs that are taught to newborns to help them communicate before they can talk."

hotch just nods his head again and sam tightly smiles.

"agent hotchner, i know this is a really hard thing for you to do but i would really like if you could work with me here because i'm just trying to do my job and help you do yours. i also know that you have a son and this is keeping you from spending time with him but i promise that it'll be worth it. i actually wanted to run something by you in regards to your son-"

"jack. his name is jack."

"-jack about not only teaching you asl but also teaching your son. i have some materials that you can take home that would help you but jack as well. he could see me once or twice a week like you are but our sessions can be shorter and we can have them for a longer amount of time. you don't need to to decide right now but just let me know at some point if that's something that you and jack would be interested in. now, let's get started." sam smiles at hotch and starts teaching him the alphabet.
