The doughnuts sizzled as June lowered them into the grease. This was her favorite time of the day: The making. The quiet before the door started opening with faces voices. She was up before the sun just so she could make the doughnuts fresh instead of preparing the batter the night before and frying them today. As June was mixing the next batch she heard the sift twinkle of the doorbell informing her that someone had just walked in. She glanced at the clock on the stove – 7:15 – only 45 minutes till opening but early enough for her to tell whoever came in to wait outside until she opened. She was wiping her hands on a towel when a little girl, about 11 or so, burst into the kitchen with tears streaming down her cheeks. The girl ran up to June. "H...Help..." she said.
As soon as she said those words a second twinkle came from the door. Only this one was accompanied by the sound of heavy footsteps. June ushered the girl she girl under a table and rushed to the man in the front. "I'm sorry sir but closed right n– "
"I'm here for the girl. " He grunted. "Where is she?"
"There is to girl here sir, now please leave." June said as politely as possible. He didn't seem like the kind of guy you'd want to piss of. "We open in 45 minutes, you can come back then."
"Stop lying to me." He grabbed June by the wrist. "Where is the girl?! I know she came in here."
"Sir, please–" June was cut off by the sound of her bowl of batter falling on the ground.
He pushed June's head into the wall and she collapsed. Her vision went blurry before blacking out to the girls screams.
