Chapter 4
The Morning of Doubts
Wei Ying opened his eyes, his Beautiful lashes fluttering, "Your majesty...." his voice sleep induced and groggy.
Wangji was surprisingly gentle as he said, " It's nothing. Go back to sleep." And with the palm of his big hands, he closed Wei Ying's gentle looking eyes and patted him tenderly, back to sleep.....
"I might have gotten too fierce last night" Lan Wangji felt guilty. So he decided to let A Yan (the palace doctor ) have a look at him later.
" Afterall he has the title of the ninth princess of the Chen country. I shall not excruciate him to death the very first day. That would be improper and too cruel." Lan Wangji breathed deeply, looking at Wei Ying his face turned soft. " He looks so gentle when he sleeps..." Wangji couldn't understand why he felt this sudden thing in his heart but he had no mood to ponder over it. He decided to leave. "It's late. I shall leave and prepare for the morning court now."
Lan Wangji puts on his royal robe and gives a last intense look at Wei Ying.
" I shall confront that bastard Su Shi. And you...ninth princess...I will come after you soon enough. " And with a smirk the emperor left.
At the gate of the concubines' Palace, Lan Wangji came across the concubines' maid. She instantly bowed to the Emperor.
" Attend the emperor." She began to sweat, wondering how on earth the emperor was coming out from Wei Ying's chambers.
The Emperor gave her a look, his face impassive. "Take good care of your mistress after she wakes up. Tell her to wait for me. She has to accompany me to lunch."
The maid bowed, replying in a shaky voice under the impression of that thundering voice- "Yes, as you wish your majesty."
The Emperor left with long strides and she ran to Wei Yings' chamber, wondering in panic what might have happened between the Emperor and Wei Ying. She banged open the door and was hit by the sweet smell of sex in the air.
Instantly she saw Wei Ying under the sheets and realised the exact scenario.
Wei Yings' face reddened, he covered himself quickly and looked at her. "Sister, do not worry. He did not realise. " he assured her.
The maid grew pale. "But you already slept with him. Emperor Wangji is very clever. How can he not know?"
Wei Ying tried to smile, " Last night the lights were off and I muddled through. And...with this face...he couldn't have had the chance to know my identity. If he suspected, I wouldn't be here safe. So, do not worry about this..." He tried to keep his voice calm as he didn't want her to know and fret about it.
The maid was assured. With a smile she asked how was Wei Ying.
Wei Ying tried to move from the bed and immediately hissed. "Hurts...so much...damn..he is an animal." His face contorted in pain as he muttered inaudibly and requested the maid to heat some water for him to bathe.
The maid happily agreed and left.
Wei Ying's face grew cloudy the moment he was alone.
"The Emperor has discovered my true gender and he even wanted to kill me. But at the last moment he didn't. Why did he stop at the most critical moment?" Wei Ying sighed as he couldn't think of a reason as to why the emperor might have spared his life.

On the other side, the Emperor Wangji -spending his wedding night in the ninth princesses' chamber, spread through the whole imperial harem like a storm.
All the Concubines learned about the news, and were burning with jealousy. They wanted to see how good the new Concubine must be so that she could capture the Emperor's interest so quickly, whereas the other concubines failed to make the Emperor spend even a few moments with them.
They burned in anger and prepared to teach the new Concubine a fitting lesson for snatching the Emperor from them.
